I applied to a non-profit last Monday. When I was on their job board I noticed that some positions while still listed, said "closed to new applicants." The position I applied for was still "open." It's been almost 2 wks so I was slowly losing hope, but I noticed that as of today, the position (while still listed) now says "closed to new applicants." I've never come across this when applying for other jobs.
Does that mean that they now have all the applications they want and are NOW starting to review them? Should I continue to hold on to hope? My friend teaches and said that this is common in the education field. I'm qualified for the position and I really need a job change. Fingers and toes crossed!
Re: A question about the application process...
With the amount of people out of work, I think you will probably see this more often. The position has most likely not been filled. They probably received enough applications that they are stopping to review those before accepting any new ones. If they don't find their ideal applicant in that original group, they will re-open the position. I would not count yourself out yet at all. Two weeks is not long at all for a lot of companies to process applications and contact potential hires.
From personal experience, I applied for my job in June and wasn't contacted until September. That is a long time and probably not the norm but any of the other positions I've been contacted by have taken at least a month.
