Fruitcake Friday (New!)

What do you think is a weird word? Like one of those if you keep saying it over and over it doesn't sound like a real word anymore?

-------

MOIST. Moist. Moooist. Moyst. It's just weird. And gross. The more the say it, the less appealing it gets. Whoever thought of the word moist? I much prefer damp or maybe even soggy. Moist just kind of turns my stomach!

  • Scissors.  I have always thought that a word with this many letters the same is just bizzare.  Plus, most of the letters have sounds they don't usually do or are silent.  Sciiiiisssssorrrrs.  See, already doesn't sound like a word to me!

  • Haha!  These are so good! I love this post :)  One of mine is egg.  What the heck kind of word is that??  Egg?

    Eh.ggg.  Aeegg. Eggh.

Also, rural.  WHO invented that word?? Terrible.   And towel. Tow.uhl. Tow.w.wel. Towoolllll.  Hmm

  • haha I have a friend who can not say the word RURAL to save her life, that is too funny!
  • Kim, do you watch How I Met Your Mother? There was an episode where one of the characters (Robin) doesn't like the word "moist." It cracked me up.

When I was doing my table numbers, I developed a severe dislike for the word table. Why is it table and not tabel or tabull or taybull? Or I think the syllable "ble" is just ugly and doesn't make sense.

  • I love this thread too.  There are always words that I say or think about and think about how weird they are.  Mine is crayon.  Some people say it has one syllable, some say two.  The way it is spelled you would think we would say cray (like tray) and then on or cra (short a) and yon like in canyon.  Plus so many people say it different ways.  There is no other word like it (spelled and sounded that way.)
