So I went with my brother last night to look at an apartment he wants to get. Well he needed to give them proof of income and he had just gotten his W-2 yesterday. I found out he makes $20,000 more a year than I do! Of course this made me angry because he has not been paying rent or buying groceries!
While talking to him last night about how much he made last year he asks how much I make a year and I tell him. He then says well now I feel really bad I haven't been paying rent. I tell him that I was wondering why he hasn't been helping and he tells me that it is because he was trying to catch up on bills and that when business slowed down things were rough for him. I proceed to tell him that things have been really hard for us too and we are not really making ends meet.
My husband had a job prior to the wedding, but he was only making $50 a week on a good week most of which went into the gas tank of his car. Part of the reason my brother moved in with us was to help us financially because my brother knew my husband didn't make much money. Well obviously that is not really what happened. I think my brother just wanted free rent.
Anyways so my husband didn't start his new job until after we got back from our honeymoon and up until a month ago he wasn't really making steady money. I am just hoping that he gets this apartment and leaves soon! Everyday when he eats our food and doesn't give any money for rent or utilities I get even more pissed!
Well...thanks for reading! Here's to hoping that things work out and he moves out soon!
Re: Vent: SO MAD RIGHT NOW!!!
Holy sh*t girl! I think my head would have exploded when I saw that number.
We were in a very similar boat 3 years ago... DH was technically unemployed, but barely pulling in pocket change working for his uncle a few times a week, if that. I was making just barely enough to pay rent and eat, so we let my sister move in with us to help with bills while she finished up school in Columbus. Well, she ended up hardly getting any hours at the bar she got a job at, so now it was only me with my measly grad student income paying rent and feeding the three of us! ( Oh, and she would come home and get pissed when their were dishes in the sink too, like your brother)
I probably would have thrown a brick through her car window if I ever found out she was putting 20K away and not giving us a dime.
Props to you girl for not killing him on the spot!
I can't believe he started to feel bad when he saw he made more money than you. That shouldn't have mattered. He should have been helping all along no matter what the income difference!!!
I guess though since he has a decent income he will probably get the apartment and move out...so there's the silver lining right?!
Thanks ladies
) My husband and I are keeping our fingers crossed that he gets the apartment he applied for yesterday. If so he will be out within a week or two. He should find out by Tuesday at the latest. Please, please, please, oh please let him get this apartment!

I would be p!ssed! There's absolutely no reason he shouldn't be kicking in some money. And if for some reason he doesn't get this apartment, you and your husband need to sit him down and "renegotiate" the living arrangements.
I may have missed something, but why is your H only bring home $50/week?

How frustrating!!
Jena-He works in sales and the business was not doing so well. He kept trying to find other jobs, but none were promising. It was like that for months before he found the job he has now. It is still sales and purely commission, but at least he makes more than that now.
Brooke-My husband and I calculated how much back rent he owes plus food, which he offered to help pay for and has not, it would equal $3,360. That is how much he insisted on paying when he moved in. Now if he paid the amount my husband and I were thinking per month then he would owe $1,680. Either way I do not see us getting any money.
