Hey ladies. I coulld use your help/ input on something. Y'all know I've been griping about my upstairs neighbors for months. There are five girls living in one apartment, and they must all have different schedules, because it seems at any given moment of the day or night, SOMEONE is bumping around up there & stomping & dropping things on the floor. Last night I was up past four because it sounded like all five of them were stomping around the hardwood floor in boots. I almost got out of bed & went up there until I realized I didn't know what to say. ![]()
I can't take it anymore. I'm so sick of it & I'm so cranky today. What would y'all do? What am I supposed to say?

Re: Advice?
Yuck
Noisy neighbors stink
Definitely address it with the landlord if you haven't yet. And you should probably talk to the girls. "Most" people are pretty reasonable, and if you go up there after midnight (or bedtime, whatever, just best to do it as you're trying to go to sleep, for emphasis), and say "Hey ladies, I'm headed to bed, (or I'm trying to get to sleep), could you keep it down a bit?" with a smile. They might not realize that they're being obnoxiously loud.
Also, do you have any kind of white noise going on? Something to "drown out" most of their noise. A fan, a humidifier, etc?

This totally sucks. Mike had an apt where the neighbors were horrendously loud. Like you could hear everything including sex it was AWFUL!
At one point I finally went upstairs and asked then nicely to cool it. It calmed down for a couple of days and then it started back up. We eventually went to the landlord.
I would say it might be worth letting them know that you can hear everything and see what happens but I would let your landlord know too.
Good luck!
I would definitely recommend that you start with the neighbors first, either by stopping by to talk to them when it seems there's a quorum, or going upstairs when they're being really loud. (You might be better off trying to catch them when you're not po'd.) The last thing you want to do is p*ss them off by running to the landlord before you even try to solve the problem yourself.
Good luck!
I'm leaning towards starting with the neighbors directly, in the nicest way possible, giving them the benefit of the doubt that they don't realize how loud they are being.
This happened to us at our old apartment... but we were the loud ones! We honestly had no idea! We only had one neighbor, and only the kitchen shared a wall, but one day we got a letter from management as our 'first notice of a noise complaint'. I was honestly a little insulted. The only thing I could think of is maybe we had our TV or music on a little loud? We are rather boring people, so I couldn't figure it out, but we were much more aware of how loud we ran the entertainment center from then on. I would have much rather the neighbor just stopped by or left a friendly note - I could never look them in the eyes after that... kind of in embarrassment and kind of being mad.
If the noise continues after that, then you should involve management, I think.
This! It's possible they don't realize they are being loud, and they should be given the chance to quiet down before bringing the landlord into it!
