Dishwasher Problem

I have a major problem (well major for me)  I wash my dishes off before putting them in the dishwasher (at least 15 yrs. old)  I just noticed a grease like build-up in the bottom of it (GROSS)  Some of it was on my dishes.  What can I do to clean it?  Please tell me I do NOT need a new one!  Oh, and I use liquid detergent.  Thanks so much!

    This is just a wild guess, but maybe try running it with just the detergent and no dishes in it?  That works for a clothes washer, so maybe it would for a dishwasher too.  There might also be some type of product that is meant for cleaning them out.

    Is the grease on the trap? Some of them are removable. You could also run it without dishes and put in a couple of tablespoons of vinegar once it starts. I know that removes the smell in them, but I'm not sure if it would break down grease.

    Run it empty with 4 cups of vinegar.  We do this about once every couple of months.  It works.

    Although I haven't tried this yet I've heard run it with no dishes and a detergent spot loaded with Tang powder.  Yup, That fantastic orange drink from when we were kids.
