Date Night....

My husband and I make it a priority to have a date night every week.  Since the area we live in is not huge we run out of things to do and are trying to find ways to keep date night fun and exciting without breaking the bank.

So I have two questions for you...How often do you and your husband have a date night? and What are some great date night ideas?  Thanks in advance!

Re: Date Night....

  • We do date night once a week.  Every Thursday night (DH works in the restaurant industry so we can't do weekends).  When we were in pre-marital counseling our counselor gave us a great suggestion. He had us each make a list of our top 10 date night ideas.  Like what would be the perfect date.  We also agreed on a monthly budget that we would stick to.  Then we swapped lists.  Each week we take turns planning date night, and we chose something from the other persons list.  So every week we either get the joy of planning something for the other person, or the fun of being the recipient, and it prevents it from turning into a "what do you want to do...I don't know, what do you want to do..." exchange.

  • Our date night tend to be pretty low-key, but always nice. Sometimes, its dinner out and others just cuddling on the couch with a movie. We tend not to go out of our way to find new things to do. We are kind of boring I guess.

  • That is such a fabulous idea Erin!  I think we will try that out and see how it works for us.

  • So I voted once a month, but I would call that date night like a nice dinner out and a movie or something.  We usually do dinner out maybe once a week, but something simple, less than $30.  Sometimes we try to make a moment of it, sometimes it's with friends, and sometimes we're just exhausted (hence not cooking at home).

Once a week though, usually a weekend night, we'll cook a really nice dinner and try to make it a mini date night and open a bottle of wine, or get some really good beer, maybe a movie on Netflix or some Scrabble... haha!  I swear we're not 80.

  • We try to do something at least once a month. For us its more a matter of getting a sitter and just wanting to spend the money. Our date nights used to be $50 now they are double that with the sitter.

  • Our date night for this week is going to be Wednesday, and we're going out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse with a gift card we got for Christmas, then coming back home - I stopped at VS the other day and picked up something very red, short, and see through that he'll get to play with.

Our date nights are usually few and far between since we both work odd hours (I'm part time bookstore and library, he's part time server), but for Christmas we asked for gift cards to various restaurants and the movie theater so we can go out a little easier once our schedules mesh. Otherwise we've been known to play games over here - either on the wii or board games - drink wine, lounge on the couch, etc. He made dinner a few nights ago, and gave me a massage, which was fantastic since I'd just gotten off a 14 hour shift between both jobs.
