I just wanted to ask if you know much about maternity leave in Ontario. I plan on taking the full 12 months (not sure if you are or not). I have read a bit about it on the Ontario website, but unsure how to actually apply, and when. My friend's fiance is taking the "paternity" part of the leave, so the 35 weeks, I think it is, and she said he couldn't start the paperwork until after his last day of work. Not sure if this is the case or not for maternity leave, as well? I know it's still far enough away, but just trying to be proactive.
Thanks in advance!

Is this what you read?

Here's another link which basically has links to everything the site has about EI:

The "maternity" part of the benefit is 15 weeks - this is basically for you to recover from childbirth. The "parental" part is 35 weeks, I think. This is the part that you can share with your husband - either one of you can take the whole 35 weeks, or you can split it (as long as your employers are cool with it, of course). I believe you have to submit separate applications for both, and the application process takes 2-4 weeks or so. You apply when you've stopped working. Here's the application info:

I'm planning to talk to my HR department after my 20-week u/s. Assuming that we can make it work financially, we definitely want to take the full year, but I may let V share part of the parental leave.
HTH!
