getting from Midway to O'Hare?

so, for the Ireland trip in March, everyone bought RT tix from Chicago to Dublin because they were significantly cheaper than from MSP. We did this we went 2 years ago too and it worked out great. We were able to get RT tix from MSP to ORD for about $130 each.

Right now, RT tix to ORD are still over $200 so I'm looking at other options including flying into Midway on Southwest.

Does anyone know how hard it is to get from Midway to O'Hare? We could work it out so we have plenty of time. Our flight to Dublin doesn't leave until 7:15pm and none of us are working on that day (Friday) so we could leave anytime.

I'm also going to post this on the Chicago board.

TIA!

Re: getting from Midway to O'Hare?

  • I have flown into both airports and they are not very close.  You can get from one to the other by train, but it may take awhile since they are on different lines.  I think you could do it if you had a long enough layover though.

  • Midway is downtownish from what I remember and O'Hare is not.  I think you are smart by posting on the Chicago board, they will probably have more insight on direct transit lines for you.

  • My coworker who is from Chicago said that it will take about an hour, but its pretty easy.

Take the Orange line to the first stop where you connect to the Blue line.  He's fairly sure its the State/Lake stop (he said that there are two connections to the Blue line, but we want the first one).  Then the blue line will take us right to OHare.

  • The cheapest thing is to take the CTA. The Orange line goes to Downtown from Midway and the Blue line goes out to O'Hare from Downtown. You can tranfer at the Clark/Lake stop. It would take about 2 hours to do the whole trip. I'd schedule some extra time and stop for lunch downtown or something before heading out to O'Hare. CTA is $2.25 per person one way, so it's definitely the most economical.

Also, Omega Shuttle runs an hourly shuttle between the airports. I believe it's somewhere around $25 per person. http://www.omegashuttle.com/schedule2.htm

  • I would recommend taking the shuttle between airports.  It may be a little more expensive, but you won't have to worry about getting on different trains.  It should take about an hour depending on the time of day and traffic, so you should leave plenty of time to get there.
