Vacation was pretty much exactly what H and I needed. I definitely feel more relaxed, refreshed, and like I have a much better outlook on life now.
The weather was mostly perfect for us, with the exception of our day in the Bahamas - it was a little chilly for anything water-related, but I did get to do yoga on the beach!! The rest of the trip was HOT, especially Panama and Costa Rica - it had to have been 90 plus. The best parts by far were ziplining in Costa Rica and snorkeling in Aruba - on a snorkling boat with an open bar!
Two things it would have been good to know:
(a) The cruise line we picked definitely caters to an older demographic. Like people my grandma's age. Seriously, the first day, a couple that had to have been old enough to be our parents approached us, all happy that there were other "young people" there. That being said, though, we were also told that their food and service are about the best, and they were pretty awesome. And we did spend a lot of time doing our own thing and enjoying each others' company and just relaxing instead of partying (because there was very little partying). Still, though, we're a little sick of old people. ![]()
(b) HOW MUCH FREAKING MONEY you can spend on a cruise. Holy crap. I think we were pretty conservative but we did splurge here and there, and it added up. Well, plus we didn't realize they added a $22/day gratuity. Gulp. However....I don't think we'll ever spend this much on a vacation again, so it was nice to do it once. I rarely splurge, so this was ok....once. ![]()
Also....I got quite a but of sun, for real, but people are going to see me and laugh because I realized today that I'm still paler than most people. And the scale says I gained 5ish pounds....which should come off once I'm back to my normal workout intensity and I'm not eating dessert at every dinner (OMG...I'll have to post pics of the chocolate buffet they did. It was insane.)
And furthermore - it's cheesy but true. There really is no place like home. We were really ready to come back.
So, what did I miss here??? I heard there was a big snowstorm. Anything else? Fill me in!!
Re: I'm baaa-aaack!!
Nothing to fill you in on. I am so glad you guys enjoyed your time and that it was just what the doctor ordered. I always love my vacations, but like you, I am usually so read to come home around the 5th day if not earlier. I hope the insane cold is not too much of a shock for your body!
OH! and I am sure that weight will drop right off once you get some water going and go back to eating healthy!
Yay!! I'm so glad you had a good time and are back safely!!! I always seem to put on weight during vacation so don't stress about that too much! What cruise line did you use so for future reference if I ever get to go on one I don't end up surrounded by old people...haha
I'm very happy you are back. Super happy. I'm doing my combo happy dance slash fist pump.
You didn't miss much. We did have two freaking snow storms, though. And the snow just keeps coming. Hope getting back to work won't be too taxing for you guys!!
I'm worthy of a happy dance/fist pump?? Aww, I feel honored!!
We were on Holland America - apparently notorious for the post-retirement crowd.
(They didn't even have a midnight buffet - they had an 11pm buffet!)
I heard about the snow storms. I get three of my vacation days back because there were that many snow days while I was gone. So that, at least, is awesome. It can warm up any time it wants to now!!!!
