Get really sick after a big event?

It happens to me, every time. I have a big, important, or stressful event that is about to happen, and once it's over, I get sick.  The adrenaline wears off and my body just collapses.  It happens after concerts, after important observations, and it happened today.  Yesterday was set building day at school, and I was terrified that we wouldn't get enough parent volunteers.  We had more than enough - everything that needed to get done got done, and it was wonderful.  My stage looks AMAZING.  However, I wake up today, and voila!  My body aches, my ears are clogged, and my throat is raw.  Does this happen to you guys?  If so, how do you go about changing it or making yourself healthy again?

  • Glad to hear everything looks great and things went well yesterday.

When you are going through one of those times, take extra care to drink lots of oj, water, and eat healthy.  Maybe cold-eze (sp?) would help?  It is supposed to block the germs before you get sick.

    Hope you feel better soon!

  • This almost always happens to me during the holidays. I have so much to do at school right before break and then getting all the traveling and/or presents together just weighs on me. The best things I have found are to get plenty of rest, drink lots of water/tea, and to take zinc. Hope you feel better soon!

  • I sometimes get sick after a big event because I didn't take care of myself (not drinking enough water, not getting enough sleep, etc.) when getting ready for it.  It used to happen to me in college too when the semester would end and sometimes I get sick over school breaks now b.c. I have just gone on auto pilot at a fast rate for so long. I think our bodies do that to tell us to slow down.  Be sure to drink lots of water and get enough sleep and take some time for yourself (date night with DH, watch movie, read book, etc,) during the stressful times.  Also, sometimes writing in a journal helps get all the emotions out during the stressful times.  Venting to one of my best friends and co-workers helps me too.
  • Glad it went well!

Yeah, that happens to me too. Maybe try drinking airborne? That really helped me out once. Maybe that can help you fight it until your body can rest and take of itself...maybe?

Airbourne!  That's what I was thinking of!

  • Airborne is a good idea. Also drinking lots of water and getting rest. But I think more importantly, you should try not to stress out so much. I know it's easier said than done, but if it's effecting your health, then ya, it's time to find some good methods that help you destress. Baths, venting....whatever it may be.

  • Definitely agree to drinking lots of water (and OJ!). This happens to me too...especailly after working like 80 hours weeks. Just give yourself a few days to not do too much (your body needs the rest!!!). I also take echinacea when this happens, I feel like it helps my body fight things off faster. Might just be in my mind, but even that can help!!
