Working Moms

How many hours of sleep do you get a night?

What time do you get up in the morning?

I was hoping to get up at 6:00 but have found that doesn't get me at work when I want to be here...so I'm thinking 5:30 but my word that is early. :)

Re: Working Moms

  • I try to get to sleep by 10 and I get up at 5:00, so that's 7 hours. I get to work around 7:00.

This is me as well.  However with that said, I don't have to bring the boys to DC.  My mother takes care of the boys during the day so I am fortunate that I don't have to do to much with them in the mornings.

  • I try to be in bed around 9, 10 or 11 (depends on what I am working on at night or what DH and I are watching on Netflix) and then I am up at  5:15 to be out the door at 6 and at work by 7ish...

  • Does the sleeping on the couch before bed count?  Because some nights I'm asleep on the couch by 10:30 or 11, but then don't get up to bed until 1am.  Lately I've been trying to just go right to bed when I'm tired, but giving into sleep on the sofa is so decadent, I just can't resist sometimes.  Other nights I'm inexplicably up until midnight.  On the days I go into the office, I have to be up by 6:15 in order to get myself ready, pack Owen's lunch, pack his daycare bag, etc.  On non-office days, I'm at the mercy of Owen.  I could be up any time between 6 and 8...he's all over the map lately.  So I guess I average about 7 hours, hardly ever unbroken.

  • I have to get up at 6am in order to get myself and Ridley ready in the morning.  I have to drop her off at daycare and be at work at 8am (I am still late sometimes).  Keep in mind that she eats breakfast at daycare so I really just need to prod her out of bed (not as easy as it sounds), brush her teeth and get her dressed.

When I was nursing, I had to get up at 5:30am.

I am asleep by 10pm (sometimes earlier).

  • I try to get in bed at 10, asleep by 11. I get up at 6 so that I can get ready for work and get Felix up at 7 to feed him before I have to leave for work.

  • I have a bit of a different schedule because Joe takes Nolan to daycare.  When I was nursing, I got up around 6:15 to start the coffee, quickly shower (but not put work clothes on yet) and then nurse Nolan.  I don't take very long showers though - like 5 min.  It took about 30 min. to nurse Nolan and do a diaper change.  He stays in his jammies because he has a 30 min. drive to daycare and always falls back asleep and usually sleeps in his carseat a little more when he gets there.   Joe and Nolan leave the house shortly after 7 and then I finish getting ready, have coffee, eat breakfast and leave.  Now that I'm not nursing, I just go in at 6:45 to wake him, rock and snuggle a little and change his diaper.  He gets his first bottle at daycare.  I get everything ready the night before - prep the coffee maker, pack his daycare bag and get our lunches ready.  I go to bed around 10:00.
  • I get up at 5, shower and get myself completely ready, then I wake up Molly by 6:15, get her dressed and nursed, then I pump, and get everything packed up to be out the door by 7:10. 5 is early, and I quadruple heart weekends now that she STTN and doesn't wake up on her own until at least 7.

  • OMG, Molly STTN already!?! That's amazing in itself ;)

I go to bed around 10-10:30 and I get up at 5:30-5:45 to be out the door at 6:15-6:20 at the latest. I usually lay in bed at 5:30 and plan what I'm going to wear so I can be speedy. I set the coffee the night before and DH makes sandwiches.

Luckily DH takes Luke to DC in the morning and I do the picking up. DH doesn't have to be to work until 9 and if he's late its no biggie, so he gets morning duty.

I can't imagine with BF-ing/pumping, etc. I didn't work when I was BF-ing (or I worked later in the day).

  • I have a short commute to daycare and work, so we are pretty late risers.  I usually try to let Ben sleep until he wakes up on his own which is sometimes after 8.  If he's not up by 8:15 I wake him up and quickly get him dressed to get out the door. He gets breakfast at daycare.  I usually get up around 7 or 7:30.  I shower at night to save time in the morning and just wet my hair to blow dry again.  I should be going to bed by 10, but usually get distracted.  I really need to do it.

I know! We're so lucky! She started the night before I went back to work..over a month ago!

  • Jake needs to be at daycare between 8:30 & 9, so I go to bed around 11 (should go to bed at 10 though!), get up around 6:15-6:45-ish (whenever Jake wakes up) and then we hang out and eat breakfast.  I get ready while DH watches him, and then we pack his lunch and leave around 8:15.  One thing that helps a TON is showering the night before and packing everything the night before.  The days that I don't do that suck.  I think the stage you're at is particularly difficult because you have to store your pumped milk and then sanitize all the pump parts/bottles every night, and it feels like it's a never ending Groundhog Day.  Just remember it will get MUCH easier!!

  • I go to bed at 10pm usually.  We get up around 7am.  I shower and get ready while Chris usually gets Marcus dressed and feeds him breakfast.  Chris leaves at 7:30 and then I finish getting things together.  It was much more time-consuming when I had to get bottles ready and wash pump parts, so that does definitely get easier!  I leave his diaper bag at daycare with diapers, wipes, and a change of clothes, so I usually don't have to get anything together for him.  We leave by 8am, drop him off at 8:15, and I'm to work at 8:30a.

  • Most nights I'm in bed by 9, asleep by 10.  If it's a night where I work OT in the am, then I try to get to bed right after I put Taylor down.  So in bed by 8 and reading for a bit.  If I'm working OT at night, it's around 1045 before I'm asleep.

OT mornings I'm up at 520 and out the door at 545.  Chris takes care of Taylor and drops her off at daycare.  On mornings there is not OT, I'm up at 620 and shower/dress.  Waking up Taylor at 650 and head downstairs for bottle etc.  We leave around 735 to get to daycare and work on time.

Everynight I bag the next days diapers and lay out Taylor's clothes.  It works for us but mornings go by fast no matter what.

  • I go to bed anywhere form 10 to 11:30- though 10:30 would be ideal. My clock alarm goes off at 7:30, though the James alarm goes off at 7 plenty of days. James STTN about half of the time, and the rest of the time he's up once or twice, only briefly.  I also have to deal with DH getting up a little before 6, which is annoying to be woken up early.

I try to be in the office at 9- though it rarely happens.  We leave around 8:45 most days and then get to daycare just in time for breakfast for James and then I walk to the office 10 minutes away.

I remember adding in nursing and/ or getting together infant stuff really added to the time required in the morning and I had to get up earlier and/ or I was in later most days.
