Tonight and this week? I may have a small love affair with pre-planning and list making so I write out a meal plan for the week and we go grocery shopping based on that list.
This week's menu includes:
Stroganoff casserole
Chicken parm
Italian chicken pannis with parmesan fries
Steaks with scalloped potatoes
BLTs
Pizza

Re: What's For Dinner?
So far I only know Santa Fe' Chicken tonight and chilli a couple nights.
I have been so bad with this lately.
*Sigh*
Someone please break this down for me. Do you shop that week for the menu of that week? Do you create the menu based on what you have around the house? How to you new ideas for your menu to keep things "new".
I'm a disaster in this area. I can cook, and cook well, I just cannot grasp the menu idea.
I sit down on Sunday mornings and write out a meal plan for the week. I then go through the pantry and refrigerator to see what I have on hand already. I'll write a grocery list for the items that I don't have and we'll go shopping for just the things on that list. And I stick to the meal plan all week.
It saves us so much money and we eat healthier since I'm not scrambling around after work trying to figure out something for dinner.
I sit down on Fridays with the food store's ad and see what's on sale. Then I write down exactly what we are having for dinner each night and what ingridients are needed. Whatever we don't have in the house goes on the list. If it isn't on the list we don't buy it. I've saved SOOOO much money this way.
I'm so anal about it that I have a detailed excel spreadsheet with the menu, items needing to be purchased (if they are on sale) and what I already have stocked in my pantry. My H says it's a bit much, but he enjoys all the savings to much to pick on me.
Tonight we are having left over Taco Soup and chips, tomorrow we are having hot ham and cheese sandwhiches and tomato soup, the rest of the week we will be on vacation in Vermont.
Thanks, Ladies! I'm just finally settling into the shopping routine. Seems like ever since we bought the house we were dieting for one reason or another. Now we are finally eating like normal people, so I am able to shop for normal food!
It definitely makes sense to me with both of your methods. I'm going to give this a try this weekend.. see what happens. I feel like I'll become mildly obsessed with my savings, etc, but if it saves us money, I'll take it!
