why am i so reluctant to read the HP series?
Every year DH works baseball, I tell myself it's the perfect opportunity to read it because he's gone for like, 4 months straight. His first away series is coming up and I'm thinking maybe it's time to bite the bullet and just get started.
Maybe it's because I know that I'll want to read all 7 in a row and it will consume me? I've seen it consume BIL and my sister, who aren't readers, so I know it must be good... but I just don't know if I want to get so invested! I know, lame reasons.

Re: why am i so reluctant to read the HP series?
I don't think it was that hard to keep the characters straight. It wasn't like in Breakign Dawn where they suddenly paraded in about 50 new characters in 20 pages.
WTF? Who says this? It's Harry Potter, not Ulysses. Sometimes it gets hard to keep everyone straight (I guess?), but just wikipedia something if you're not sure. No need to keep a list. Again, WTF?
Ok that makes me feel better. It was two old CW's who were obsessed with it who told me to do that. I think their obsession was partially what turned me off. 50 year old women gushing about a wizard boy was a little too much to take.
I have no desire to ever read HP or Twilight. I think books that get a mass following like that turn me off.
Well, I can understand their gushing about a "wizard boy" (pshh, you'll understand too), but no need to make it more complicated than it is. I mean, the first books are on an elementary school age reading level. You'll be fine.
Why so scared of the "committment"? That's the same with any good book series! That's why people enjoy them so much.
Now both of you, suck it the eff up and read them.
This exactly. It's seriously NOT that complicated. Children read these books. I thoroughly enjoy them but they're at a pretty basic level of reading comprehension IMO.
Seriously? It's not the Silmarillian. There are a few very minor characters who I had to Wikipedia, only because they would show up briefly in book 2 and then be more important in another book, but she never leaves you going "Wait...who is this?"
Seriously, read them. True, you'll probably want to read all seven in quick succession, but it's so worth it. And it will break my heart if you let yourself get the ending from the movie before you read it.
You bite your tongue, young lady. NEVER compared HP to Twilight. Two completely different levels.
So true. Twilight is kind of a cluster-f*ck. I mean, it's definitly entertaining, but I had to stop myself a few times while reading it and go "Really? This is ridiculous."
Harry Potter is just phenomenal.
It's ridiculousness is what makes it awesome for me.
Ok, Im going to see if I can find the on Kindle Lending. Check back in a month, I might be HP crazed by then.
okay okay, I'm going to start it. but when i post on here with questions and omg moments, you must chat!
and yes, though i loved twilight at first, breaking dawn is just a joke.
Rest assured, this will not a be a problem. HP nerds off the top of my head - Rai, Devon, Madisen, jodippls, me... I think you're good.
All this gushing is just turning them off even more.
Ash, I'm not really sure what all the hype is about to be honest with you.
(LB, is she reading them yet?)
I'm sorry, I can't focus or gather an appropriate response because I'm rereading the entire series for the 186th time because they're that effing awesome.
I mean... they suck. Meh. *cough*
Yea, no, totally awful. Horrific, really.
But, I mean, you could still read them...you know, so we can all say how terrible they are together. Or something.
agreed!
Before I started reading the books, I thought the hype was ridiculous too but I was instantly hooked. HP is awesome!!! They're classics.
