Anyone have a steam mop?

Hi Ladies,  I already asked this over on the GL board, but thought I'd as here as well.  Do any of you have a steam mop?  I'm looking at Haan's right now.  I was previously looking that the Shark, but I like how the Haan gets a lot hotter.  I'm also debating on a hand-held as I have a ton of tile in the bathroom and no matter how hard I scrub, it is still yucky to look at.  (We are eventually tearing it all out).  I'd love to hear  your experiences!

Re: Anyone have a steam mop?

  • I got a Shark steam mop for Christmas -- the cheaper of the alternatives as I wasn't sure what I would think about it either.  I have tile floors in my kitchen and bathrooms and laminate wood floors pretty much everywhere else.  It worked great in the bathrooms -- however, our grout is white but 20 years old.  Just the steam mop doesnt get it back to white.  However, I scrubbed it by hand first to bleach it and using the steam mop weekly has maintained the clean look so far (but its been less than a month).  In the kitchen it was easier since our tile/grout is only 5 years old but the grout lines are wider and the floor gets dirtier.

I haven't tried it on the wood floors yet but I've heard that it works well -- I'm planning to test it out this weekend since we have a real estate agent coming to look at our house Monday night.

  • I got the Bissel Steam Mop for Christmas.  I haven't used it yet, but plan on trying it out for the first time tomorrow morning.  I'll let you know how it goes.
  • My mom bought me a Bissel steam mop about 6 months ago.  I used it on our old hardwood floors which haven't been refinished in a loooong time. It left white marks all over the wood, which are still there months later (I have some sort of oil remedy that I haven't gotten around to trying yet). The steam mop worked wonderfully on the linoleum in the kitchen, but I won't use it again on wood floors untiI I refinish them.

  • Update - I used my Bissel over the weekend and LOVE it!  I have slate, linoleum & bamboo floors (no actual finished wood floors).  It worked great!  Cleaned really well, dried fast and the floors look fantastic.  I have heard there can be problems with the hot steam clouding the finish on natural wood floors, so am thankful I don't have any to have the same problem Megs had.  (Hopefully your remedy will work to fix the problem.)
