Have you seen "The Strangers"?

On a couple of other boards they're talking about opening up your door to a stranger who needs assistance.  Mostly the consensus is No, but its a case by case basis and usually they would call 911.  I know we've talked about this in the past, I'm pretty sure we all agreed with the above.

Some posters go all "HAVE YOU SEEN THE STRANGERS?!?" and get all huffy about being killed in the night by crazies.  ML then had a post that asked how much you base your life off of movies?  It made me really think about it.

I still have issues with storm drains and the movie IT.  I used to think our cars were being chased by T Rex after Jurassic park when I was little.  I still, to this day, have issues with looking out the windows, especially into the woods in the back yard when its raining because of Twilight Zone's thing on the wing.

I realize these are all trumped up scare tactics, but what have you translated into real life because of the movies, or even a book you've read?

  • Mine is going to make me sound OCD.  I always picture Petri from Land Before Time when I'm walking on a side walk.  "Don't step on a crack or you'll break your mother's back!"  And I actually try not to step on them.  I mean, I don't go crazy if I DO step on them, it's like a game for me to entertain myself while I'm walking I guess.  lol  Geeked

As for scary references.....I just don't watch scary movies.  They have always given me nightmares, so I just avoid them.  In fact, most recently, I've had to stop watching CSI b/c I didn't sleep for a week almost!

I am the same way. As a matter of fact, DH pokes fun at me for not watching some movies with him. It's usually in the form of "I guess I'll be seeing that one by myself, won't I?" after seeing a trailer.

I was proud of myself after finishing Signs, that's how sad I am.

  • I have lots of these even though I don't watch scary movies as a general rule either.  The few I've seen left a mark:

    - All closet doors have to be closed, I don't like clown dolls, I used to run and jump into my bed so as not have my feet too close for any lurkers underneath it could grab them, I don't like hearing static on tvs (esp when I'm alone)

  • I really love being scared, so I definitely have watched my fair share of creepy flicks, though I don't think I do anything because of what I've seen (aside from common sense stuff, like don't get in the van with the creepy man.. lol).

Though, like Madisen, I don't like any clown stuff that even borders on strange/evil. They have to be ADORABLE clowns, or they're not coming anywhere near me. lol

  • I actually get really creeped out when twins wear matching clothes because of The Shining. And after my H and I saw The Strangers, we convinced ourselves we needed to learn how to shoot a gun and keep one in the house.
