Favorite Book?

I know this gets asked on here all the time. And there is another list below of what you are reading now. But I am asking AGAIN....

I am in a book club and I am next to pick a book, so I need suggestions!

TIA!! Big Smile

Re: Favorite Book?

  • The most recent one I absolutely couldn't put down was The Help.  It would be great for a book club discussion!  It's a bit on the long side though...   I would read it no matter what, book club or not!

  • We have already read The Help. It was a great book club book. Thanks for the suggestion though!
  • I'm sure every book club in the world has done this, but one of my all time favorites is Life of Pi.

Okay good, I think everyone should read it.  :-)

How about Little Bee?  That would definitely be good for some deep discussions.

Someone needs to school me in the appeal of Little Bee.  Everyone and their mother recommended that to me and I just didn't like it.  Parts were good, but overall a big let down.  Why didn't I get it?

It's hard to say.  Something about it sucked me right in though.

I read on someone's FB page the other day that 1984 is their favorite book and I hated that book so much I wanted to throw it across the room.

Usually if enough people say they like a book I usually like it too.  Not always, but usually.

It's ridiculous, but I get irritated when I don't like things that most people like.  I feel like I'm just not getting it.

I think I liked it because the author did such a good job of narrating each character in "their style".  If that makes sense.  It feels like each character was very authentic to me.  I'm finding it hard to put into words what exactly I mean....maybe why I'm not an author :-)

  • No, I think that's good.  Maybe I should re-read it.  I think I was waiting for some big moving thing and maybe I didn't pay attention to the subtleties.

  • I didn't love Little Bee either. Once I found out what the big secret was, I kinda went "meh" after the rest of it. I also didn't like the ending.

My favorite recent books that I've loved have been The Hunger Games series. It's YA, but SO good.
