It is so cold and dry

I could seriously bathe in body lotion right now and I don't think it would help.

I think I've put hand lotion on 4 or 5 times already today. Any one else having issues because of the weather? And any suggestions?

I'm probably going to go crazy by 5 from this.

Re: It is so cold and dry

  • Vaseline is always my backup with the regular body lotion doesn't cut it...it's gross/oily, but works wonders
  • If you've got floor vents in your house like we do (the flat ones that are totally on the floor, not the ones that sit on the floor and up against the wall), then put a bowl of water on it. Temperature of the water doesn't matter, but when your heater kicks in, it warms the water in the bowl, which sends more moisture into the air. I've got one bowl on a vent in every room (4 bowls total), and it's been a lot less dry in here. I also lotion up at night before bed, and again after I shower in the morning. It's definitely helped.
  • At the apartment we have electric heat.......yeah......it blows.

At the house, which we move into on saturday, we'll have the wall vents. Thankfully the house is heated with natural gas, so there is a humidistat. I can't wait to get in there, we have to keep that set pretty high because of our Ig, she has her own humidifier as it is. But hopefully it'll help this situation.

  • Over the last few weeks I too have contemplated just bathing in lotion.  My whole body is so itchy and dry!  We are in the process of getting a humidifier for our furnace, but someone told us that houses w/plaster walls tend to be drier...so I guess we lose on that front.

  • Yup, and thats what we have too. I told Dave to rip out all the walls and replace them with sheet rock. haha, thats a quick easy process right?

But putting in the humidifier with the heating systems helps A LOT.
