This board is getting so slow!

Where is everyone lately? How was everyone's weekend?

It was way too cold to do anything so we just stayed in. I made chili on Saturday and we were bad and ordered pizza last night!

We tried to have a relaxing weekend because DH's car was in the shop for 3 WEEKS while they figured out how to fix his 4WD. We finally got it back ($1300 later) and 2 days later it started clunking again. We were beyond furious. This was on Friday so we called and witched at them. They offered to take it to Ford to get it fixed...which means more time and money. We decided to take the weekend to think about what we want. DH called today and asked for almost half our money back....we are waiting to see what happens.

Today I have no sub jobs so I am BORED out of my mind! I have about 5 scholarship essays to write and I have no motivation (even though I want to hand them all in on Wednesday!)

  • My weekend was uneventful, which is nice sometimes. I didn't feel so hot on Saturday (worst cramps EVER), so we just hung out at home, but yesterday it was so gorgeous out AGAIN that we couldn't resist walking to the park (just 2 blocks from our place) and spreading out a balnket and reading in the sunshine. it was pretty perfect actually.  Smile

Bummer about the car. I am proud of you two for pushing back on the cost. They totally didn't fix the problem they were hired to take care of, so you should not have to pay full price for their wasted efforts. Threaten the Better Business Bureau if they argue!

  • Not so awesome.  We had to put down a second cat since Halloween...both cancer.  So for the past 12 months, that is 2 cats and 2 birds.  I'm starting to feel like the angel of death around here.  The volunteer jobs I do have been fraught with drama and stress.  A lot of crap to deal with for no money sometimes.  And to add icing to the cake, my husband's company is being sold...on top of the 10% cut in pay now we get to worry about whether he will have a job at all in 6 months.

I want to go back to bed and stay there for a week.....

    Enough whining  Stick out tongue

My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!
  • Weekend was good I guess.  My parents decided that we're spending next "Christmas" in Florida (going between Thanksgiving and Christmas so not "Christmas" proper) so I took DH to an intro to SCUBA class at one of our local outfitters.  He's hooked so now we'll get him into a full certification class.  I'm already certified so it was kinda fun for me to get back into the gear and play in the pool for a bit.

Sunday, we had a nice chill day.  I worked on my sisters' bed which i haven't had time for lately and then we had dinner with my family which is always a riot.  We were supposed to make dessert  so I made a pan of brownies with the intent of getting a container of cinnamon ice cream to go with.  The pan was scorching hot so I figured my dog would leave it be.  NOT the case.  She ate half the pan before I noticed.  Good news was that she's a walking garbage can so eating that much chocolate doesn't even slow her down (she ate a bag of hershey's kisses once and I called the vet in a panic.  They just laughed and said that since she's a lab/golden mix, she'd be just fine but I could make her puke... if I wanted.  Who wants that?!).  Bad news was I had to bring store bought pie to dinner. Crying

  • I'm so sorry muffin...seems like when things decide to get crappy, everything gets crappy all at once.  I'm really sorry about your cat, I know how hard that is.  Hoping things get better for you soon!

So I quit my new job last week....ya that sucked.  I never quit a job so quickly before, and that was def. a new experience for me.  So I was unemployed for 2 whole days.  I felt like an ass because I know a lot of people are unemployed right now and not by choice and how shitty is it of me to quit a job like that....willingly (word?).  But I knew it wasn't for me.  I was able to get my old job back which I am VERY thankful for.  Sometimes you don't appreciate things until they are gone and the grass def. wasn't greener on the other side in this situation.  Big lesson learned.  BIG.  Excited to go back to work tomorrow and appreciate what I have.  Oh and my weekend was super boring, I didn't clean my house, and laid on the couch and watched football.  My husband gets home tonight from a 6 day trip which I am excited about.  Oh and 90210 is new tonight....SQUEEEEEEE! Indifferent

  • Our weekend wasn't bad--we stayed in, mostly, since I had a ton of homework.  Saturday night, we rented Wall Street and ordered strombolis.  Sunday was a big let down as I was hoping for the Bears and the Jets to win so I could have a pizza vs pizza party...yeah, that's not happening.  In fact, I shut off the tv in the middle of the Jets game and declared no more party until I remembered this morning that I have two groupons for a total of 2 dozen cupcakes that must be used by that weekend.  I think we're having a Wii party instead since we have the new drawing pad.

MuffinsMom--that really blows.  Sending lots of good vibes your way.

Kristina--so what was this short-lived job?

    Matt loves Munkii!!!
  • Ohhhh cupcakes, I want to come to the Wii party....  Enrollment and Matchiing Specialist at a VERY large well know nonprofit mentoring organization.
  • JKip - That blows. I'm impressed that you stood up to them. I would never have the balls!

Muffin - so sorry for your loss! We put our dog down the weekend after Thanksgiving and I think I cried for 2 days straight. DH and I still have moments (and now that I'm typing this I'm tearing up at my desk :(). Losing a pet is the hardest. T&P that your husband stays employed.

Cip - good for you for getting out of that new job, though. I think I would have felt like I had to stay just to prove something.

My weekend was pretty run of the mill, except that I got a Moby baby carrier (big, big piece of fabric that you wrap around yourself and your baby...works like a baby bjorn but more ergonomic) and I was able to nurse Liam while walking around Ikea without anyone noticing. Juan wasn't sure whether to be embarrassed or impressed. The look on his face was priceless. Overall, it was AWESOME and liberating. I wish I'd gotten it sooner!

We are also starting the home buying process in the next month or so and we are scared...such a big purchase. Everyone cross your fingers for us and I welcome any "I wish I'd known..." type advice!

  • My "I wish I had known" advice is that at some point in every homebuyer's journey, you will cry at least once.  I think it is just part of the process and it is OK. Big Smile In the end, you'll have a new place to call home and it is all worth it.

Mine came when the selling agent threatened to sue me for something along the lines of failure to perform on a contract or something similar because they called my pre-approval lender (whom I had decided not to get my mortgage through) and found out that I hadn't proceeded with financing beyond pre-qualification.  It was easily addressed by having my real lender call and straighten it out but it was the proverbial straw the broke the camel's back for me.  I sobbed, at work, in the parking lot for a good half hour and then all was good.

This may be the coolest baby thing I've heard of!  BFF and SIL are having babies in March -- I may have to look into this for them.  I'm definitely impressed you could nurse in Ikea!  Smile

Weekend for me was super sick Friday.  Saturday I was feeling well enough to teach but I was stuck on the couch all night because I used all my energy teaching.  Sunday was just relaxing -- church, margaritas in the backyard with DH because it's somehow Spring in California already, reading, and movie watching with DH (NEVER get days like that -- it was GREAT!).

  • Muffin's Mom- so sorry to hear about losing your cat and the uncertainty of your husband's job.

Things have been pretty stressful for us lately too, but for different reasons.  DH really, really wants to get back into school to finish his degree (as do I, of course) and his employer has been making not-so-subtle hints about it as well, but he just hasn't had the time and we haven't had the money. So in order to cut down on his commute time so he has time for school we're planning on moving into STL from the burbs. And so that we can afford to do all of this I'm now looking for a full time job and putting my business (that I started around this time last year) aside and will work on it in my spare time. *sigh*  And there are NO jobs right now!  Well, that I'm qualified to do or wouldn't cause me to hate my life.  And so far we're found 2 houses that we fell in love with and lost to other people.

Annnnd right now my only form of stress relief were my twice weekly 4 mile walks with my mom and now I can't even do that cause I hurt my foot Friday.  I can't be on it for very long without pain, so I'm seeing the doctor Thursday. I'm hoping I don't have a stress fracture.

Okay... enough whining and b!tching from me...

  • This board HAS been getting slow! :(

My weekend was just... eh.  Friday we didn't do much of anything.  Saturday, I went with my sister to get her wedding gown fitted (and I got my BM dress fitted).  Went to lunch with our mom, then DH and I rented The Other Guys (hilarious, by the way).  Sunday, we had DH's cousin and her BF over to have chili and watch the Bears game (boo for the Bears losing, by the way).

I didn't want to go to work at all today.  Our weather has been nuts lately and our road crews apparently can't handle snowy situations since we don't get them all that often here, so traffic has been nuts.  There were wrecks all over the place this morning!  We couldn't take the interstates because of accidents, so the side roads made our commute almost 4 times as long as usual. :(  The traffic report said commutes would be 4-8 times as long for basically everyone!

Other than that, my job is getting crazy busy since we're involved with tax season, so that made me not want to go even more!  Ugh... is it Friday yet? :(

  • Muffin - I'm really sorry - that sucks!

JKip - I hope you get the money your H asked for, because that's beyond ridiculous.

We had a mostly lazy weekend at home. Friday night, we decided we wanted to go a shade of paint darker in our living room, so we painted that and then got even MORE crazy and painted the entry/hallway, which kind of sucked since I was in charge of edgework and trim. Saturday, my mom came up and we went out to dinner. It was really nice to have a chance to catch up over Olive Garden salad. H and I went to church and out to breakfast and then stayed home to watch football the rest of the day...or rather, til H got upset and turned it off since he's a Bears fan.

ETA - about the house stuff...our process went really smooth until 3 days before closing, when our underwriters decided that they didn't want to finish the loan because of some small issue. It absolutely DID make me cry because we had all of our moving stuff set up and ready to go, and were staring down the barrel of not having a place to live! But it all worked out in the end...not that that's really advice. Just be cautious!
