Cambria recs please XP

Just made my reservation at the pelican cove inn with the travel zoo deal. Any suggestions for places to do or thing to do. We are going super bowl weekend. Thanks

  • My favorite place! I highly recommend figuring out what time the sun sets and reserving a table at the Hamlet at Moonstone Gardens on Highway 1. (I'm biased, had my reception there. Wonderful place to watch the sunset.) In the past, they've had piano players on Saturday nights (and oh the baked brie!).

Moonstone Beach, of course, where you can spend hours combing through the little moonstones. "The ranch," that wildlife preserve in the south part of Cambria is a very pretty walk too.

The antique stores at the east (south?) end of town are fun too. We spend a long time just strolling the streets. Robin's is also a great restaurant with a great patio. And Mustache Pete's actually has surprisingly good food.

My favorite place on earth: The Amargosa Valley.

  • Moonstone Bar and Grill has the BEST clam chowder and yummy fish tacos. There's also a lot of cute shops in downtown Cambria. If you drive north just past Hearst Castle in San Simeon (only about 20 minutes north of Cambria) you can go watch the elephant seals. Right now is their mating season so the beach is COVERED with them. There is also Hearst Castle and it shouldn't be too crowded this time of year. You can book tours online. You can also drive to Morro Bay (15 minutes south on highway 1) and check out the antique shops and the Embarcadero. The BEST cinnamon roles are at Crills II on the Embarcadero. There's also some outdoor things to do in Morro Bay such as kayak, rent bikes or a surry, and whale watching. Morro Bay also has a cool older style theater if you want to catch a movie at night and it's not expensive. Those towns tend to roll up their sidewalks at about 8pm so a movie wouldn't be a bad idea. If you want more city stuff to do you can always explore San Luis Obispo. It's about 30 or 35 minutes south of Cambria on Highway 1. It's also a big college town. HTH!

  • I forgot about Moro bay! Dh and his parents were there when he was a baby and I went there as a child with my grandmother. What a great idea! We could have dinner there or something and go to the shell shop. Oh the elephant seals are why we are going! Yes they are prehistoric fun! I can't wait! Dh and I have gone and stayed at the motel 6 in San siemon and watched the elephant seal every year since we have been together. However this year we have DD who is 8 months and mil who is in a wheel chair. I needed an infusion of new ideas to entertain mil instead of hiking like we have done in the past. This is great she loves antiques and plants! We also choose a much fancier hotel in Cambria this time. The rooms have a fireplace, fridge and micro, DVD player and ocean view porch. I think we will have a fantastic time together.

Cool! I'm well. We just bought a house. I can't believe your baby is 8 months already!

I'm not sure if that hotel is wheelchair accessible. You have to go upstairs to get to the dining room.

The preserve/ranch is, however. There's a boardwalk that runs the length of it. It was great when my uncle was there. He has a bum knee and whipped out his little folding scooter and took off down the boardwalk. Great views.

  • Pass: we are staying at the pelican inn. We booked a wheelchair room for mil. I was just reading today about the walking path that is wheel chair assessable. We also have a sliding glass door and little porch for her with an ocean view. There may be an elevator for the Breakfest place. If non we will go get it for her and eat in the room. Ya Gigi is 8 months, so crazy. Congrats on the new home! That is exciting!
