I have been searching for new lamps for what feels like forever. My aunt got me a Lowe's gift card for Christmas, so I have really been looking there. What do you all think of these two?
This one comes with the shade already, but it matches our living room. The part we really liked was the base though.
Or this one. I really like it. The bronze look matches the other metal in the room. But, I would have to find a shade. And really the shade has been the biggest problem.
Right now the living room has three tan walls and one dark red accent wall (yeah, yeah I know). Our furniture is a dark brown. The curtains are tan and brown. The lamps I have now are too tall and have red shades that blend into the wall too much because they are both against the red wall.
Hay-lup me please!
Re: I need decor help, too.
Sounds like the first one would match nicely.
I just changed our lamps in our LR to a brushed nickel base and cream barrel shades that are sort of a burlap-like material. I really like them and I think the barrel shade style makes them a bit more modern. I bought them at Target and it was around $50 for the bases and shades for 2 lamps, I want to say both pieces were on sale for $12.99 or something.

I like either base, but the shade on #1 just seems...strange. I can't put my finger on why I don't like it. Maybe it's just the "flatness" of the photo that makes it awkward?
I feel the bases both have an "old/antique" feel, which to me suggests a bell shade shape:
That one ranges from $29-$49 at Target because it's faux leather, but there are others in different fabrics in the same shape.
Also, what's wrong with an accent wall? I personally like accent walls. Are they no longer in fashion or something?
Accent walls are dated per the D&R world. However, vinyl word art is too, and I still like it.

PSH. My house is gonna have an accent wall and vinyl word art in every single room. For realz.
(Okay, maybe not every room, but I'm totally doing it. And it's not "dated" - it's retro. A la Dawson Season 4.)
I have a couple of accent walls too and I like them. My upstairs is a loft because my house is a story and 1/2 so the upstairs bedroom share the walls with the living room so I painted the back wall a different color so that it had some definition. My upstairs bathroom also has slanted ceilings due to the peak of the roof so it has an accent wall too, I think it highlights the architectural features of the house. I did get rid of the one downstairs that I was never really a fan of though when we made the 2nd bedroom a nursery.

I love the first one. Not having to look for shades is a huge bonus.
I really like my accent wall, too. It isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Partly because red is beast to repaint, but mostly because I like it. Like Mamie said, D&R thinks they are way passe.
Thanks for the thoughts on the lamps, girls.
