Marin Sun Farms (local, humane, free-range meat)

So, my fingers and toes are crossed and I was hoping someone might have heard of Marin Sun Farms and have the scoop on them. Plus, I wanted to share this info in case others are interested.

It sounds like they are a legitimate provider of local, humane, free-range, etc. meat that can be bought in the cuts and quantities you want, including chicken. This is potentially huge for me because I haven't been able to find a place where you can elect to get just chicken breasts or whatever, as most humane/pasture-raised places make you buy the whole chicken.

They sell their meat at their shops, some markets, SF farmer's market, or as a part of a meat CSA. I'm surprised just how much of the bay area they cover! http://www.marinsunfarms.com/about/places_to_buy.html

They have fantastic reviews on the internet but I am hoping someone has some experience with them or some thoughts on their practices...

We stopped at their store. It is super expensive. We got New Orlean's style coffees and that was about it. We were fabulous though. I would give them an A+.

Yep, already saw their pricing. But we expected as much and since DH doesn't seem to mind the cost, I'm all for it. It seems at some point in these past few years I managed to convince him that paying an arm and a leg for food was totally reasonable. If only I remembered how I did this and could harness this power for all purchases!

Our Turkey from t giving was msf, and I pretty much only buy their meat, well poultry is really all I buy for the house, don't really buy red meat for our house. They are an awesome company. Yes price is higher, but it's what I Want to spend $ on. My Turkey for t giving was $80 Eeeek.

FWIW - I LOVE getting whole chickens. So many possibilities!

Thanks for link, though, I will certainly check them out. Our beef options out here have been seriously lacking.

Yep. I belong to a meat co-op that gets meat from local ranchers and I love MSF. I don't belong to their CSA because the co-op effectively handles bulk ordering. I think the cost is worth it. You can sometimes find people to split a CSA with if you don't eat that much meat.

DH and his siblings went to school with the owners. They use the dairy ranch my FIL lives/works on to "free-range" their chickens. I say "free-range" because they are still in cages, it's just that the cages are moved around the property. It's up to industry standards, and safer for the chickens then actually roaming around. Free-range can mean a lot of things.
