Random Pet Peeve & Vent - FB Related

Really badly photoshopped pictures that people try and do themselves that have NO IDEA how to use photoshop. They just click some buttons and think, "this looks like it's photoshopped so it must be cool!" I've seen some really bad photos lately on amateur photographer's FB pages.

I honestly want to rip the photos down from the FB album, re-touch it and re-upload it to the album.

And I realize this is because of all the art composition and photography classes I've had that now there's so many things ingrained in my mind from my professors... but still... le sigh... there's cheap how-to books on Amazon...

ETA: This vent totally comes from a family member trying to model and those pictures popping up in my FB feed...

  • along the same lines - I hate it when people buy a really expensive camera and try to be a photographer.  One of my sib's friends from college is trying to start a business.  Not only are her pictures not composed, she's not at all good at posing folks or even capturing candids.  Having an expensive camera does not a photographer make!  She may get lucky and catch a couple good ones but the rest are just really not good.  She's a totally sweet girl and I hope that with practice, she can make it work, but she needs to do a LOT more practicing before she decides to give up her day job.
  • Oh please let me add to this.  One of DH's relatives got a DSLR and he has no clue how to use it or take a good picture.  The best was at Christmas when we had to pose for a family photo and he set the tripod at waist level.  It took like 5 minutes for him to get a picture that didn't cut off our heads and we all had double chins.  You'd think he would get the hint when people untag themselves on FB.

It drives me even more nuts because I want to take photography classes soooo badly but we can never justify the money for a DSLR.

this x100000. lesson one. GET LESSONS ON LIGHTING! people with that crappy attached flash angled at a 45 is NOT going to get you good images in low light. *barf*

i know lighting is hard but until you have it down, please don't try to charge people for photos.

  • I really really don't like over-Photoshopped photos.  It's a helping tool not a total crutch.  We ended up choosing our wedding photographer because she still shot on film and did NO editing.  None.

And don't get me started on photos that are black & white with just one thing in color (bride's bouquet etc.)  Those are my least favorite.  Ever.

I agree - a fancy expensive camera does not a photographer make.  A truly great photographer can get good photos out of a bad camera in my opinion!
