So...overall it went very well. Except at the end....and now I am anxious but staying positive.
I'm trying not to freak out or cry. I was told the chances for any major defects are extremely slim, especially with my ERA results being 1 in 10,000 (the most they tell you in my office- lowers my chances as for a 20 year old) for both Downs & Tri 18.
So, the not so good news- when looking for the markers (forgive me if my phrasing was off, all I was doing was focusing on negative at this point), they found a Choroid Plexus Cyst. The good news, the hands and feet were moving and nothing to be concerned about, since usually there are other abnormalities when a child has Trisotomy (I guess such as clenched fists, for instance). Most of the heart looked fantastic; but they want to look at it again in 4 weeks (since I am only 17w3days ish) because they saw most of it, but the way the baby was positioned, couldn't see all of it.
Overall though, it went well, all of that aside. H is very optimistic and I should be also, it's just so nerve racking. The positives...we are on team....green still. We didn't find out. Although H thinks he saw lady parts and I swore I saw boy parts, but maybe it was a bone or something...ha, who knows. At this point, please please please just let my baby be healthy. The doctor kept reiterating "it is overwhelmingly positive, I just have to tell you this"
And then when we were leaving she came chasing us out saying she forgot to tell us something. Apparently my placenta is low lying...so they want to watch that also. Has anyone been through that? Should I be concerned (she said it is normally 2cm from cervix, but mine is under that...? BTW, this was NOT my OB, this was the one who does the survey scans...she is not my favorite today).
I wish it was cut and dry and simple today. I do have awesome pictures, some 3D of the baby's face...kind of looks like he/she is smirking at me (but cute!!!). Like ha ha, I'm causing you worry...starting....NOW!
Sorry so long...I just don't know how to feel right now.

Re: Had my survey scan today (long).
Try to focus on the positive. I know several people who have seen markers on their scans but everything ended up being okay. Try not to stress ( I know it is much easier said than done).
Aren't the 3D pics great! Looking back it is amazing to see how much Will looked like his scans, especially the one I had done later in the pregnancy.
I know it must be a shock to go from being so excited to see the baby to suddenly knowing there might be something wrong. Try not to worry, though (I know that's near impossible). Considering the hands, feet, and what they could see of the heart were perfect, the cyst is very, very likely nothing. Hang in there. In 4 weeks they'll look at the heart again and tell you it's absolutely 100% perfect.
The 3D of the face sounds really cute. It's also fun that you saw boy and Justin saw girl parts. Who's right?
Same here, we've had a few friends that have had a few things come up on their scan and everything turned out great. I'll keep you and baby in my prayers!!
Did they go into detail about what the cyst is and how it affects the baby?
As for the placenta, did she mention that it looked like placenta previa? A few gals on my local board had this and ended up delivering perfectly healthy babies!
I've heard a lot of people having a low lying placenta. I don't believe it is anything to be alarmed about. Obviously speak to your OB and see what he or she says.
I really think everything is fine with you and baby. I think nowadays they are overly cautious with things. I'll definitely keep you guys in my prayers.
I will be keeping you guys in my prayers and hoping everything is fine! Like others have said, I've heard of tons of people having abnormal markers and a low lying placenta and delivered prefectly healthy babies! I hope the same for you! I know it's hard, but try not to worry too much about it!
That is pretty funny that you both thought you noticed a different gender!
One of my good friends had placenta previa. She had to have a scheduled c-section (about 4 wks) early (because she COULD NOT go into labour) and she lost more blood than usual but Mom and baby are both perfectly healthy. Baby is 4mths old (almost 5mths old) now.. The good news, other than that, is that she felt the baby at like 12 wks. It was her 2nd too. Hopefully, you translate that as it is nothing really that bad... Also, most cases of placenta previa apparently correct themselves...
They actually said most likely the cyst is nothing, and will not impact the baby...unless I'm under that 1% whose child has trisotomy.
she didn't mention placenta previa at all...so that's positive.
You totally have the right to react in any way you want. Especially so early in the pregnancy, before you feel baby move and know that he/she's in there safe and sound, anything you hear that might be even a tinge bad is so scary. When we went in for our 12 week appt, they couldn't find the baby's HB with the doppler because she was behind my pelvic bone- of course, all we knew is that they couldn't find the heartbeat and wanted to do an ultrasound "just to be sure." We had to wait 4 hours until we could go in for the ultrasound and it was terrible.
Like many pp's said, a lot of women have had indicators on their test that don't mean anything. Hold on to J's optimism and just wait it out! You will feel better about it soon enough!
