house bummer

We've been saving up our money for our next big house project. The options are: 1. redo the Florida room + add a door to the backyard 2. redo the other bathroom or 3. tear out all carpet and put in wood floors.

Well, we just found out what that money is going to instead:

Replace the septic tank.

Home ownership is the pits.

  • My in-laws did that 2 years ago and my mom just did that 2 weeks ago. I can really sympathize with how bad that sucks!

  • I suppose there is a silver lining in this happening now. We've been talking about putting down a patio in the backyard, which turns out would've been right over the current malfunctioning tank. I guess we can be glad we hadn't actually done it yet, although I guess it also means we can't have a patio there in the future...? ugh.

We also found that we have 2 tanks hooked up, neither of which is working correctly. they will put in one new one and redirect the pipes from both to the new one. Total bill? Near $6k.

  • Yikes, that hurts.  I'm sorry you couldn't get to the projects you were looking forward to doing.
  • OUCH. At least you didn't have the patio there. And as a silver lining, at least you HAVE the funds to do it with. Even though it still sucks and there are much more fun things you could've done with it, I always feel kind of proud of myself when things like that don't cause a panic attack because we have some cushion.

  • Awww, that's too bad... but at least you found out BEFORE you put the patio down.  Think of it this way-- Now you will just have more time for the "planning" for your other projects.....
  • That sucks, Leah. At least you didn't get started on a new project and then find out.

  • OUCH.  That sucks.  Sorry to hear Sad

But you're right about the deck!  That would've been a nightmare!

  • That royally sucks, silver lining or not.
