XP: DH's 30th bday

Hey ladies.  I'm a fairly decent planner normally, but for this shindig in particular I find myself at a loss.  DH originally requested to have his bday/super bowl party combo.  He wanted wings and snacks and drinks.  No problem.  Now, DH has opted to have his bday party the Saturday before the super bowl, then also have friends over for the football game the next day.  So now, what the heck do I do with all these people?  He's saying not to make a big deal of it.  But, I'm going to have 20 people over and no real entertainment.  Should I come up with a theme?  Movie marathon?  Games?  I just don't want it to be lame.

Re: XP: DH's 30th bday

  • I don't know, drinking is usually the theme of my parties.

We had people over last weekend and had a bonfire plus a couple games later on. A good time was had by all, I do believe.

  • I'd just like to say that I feel your pain.

LB humored me by coming to DH's bday party, and it was pretty awkward. But I'm a social idiot, so it wasn't that surprising. haha

  • Yeah, we don't normally have a real plan for our get togethers and they always turn out fine.....but there's normally a game on or something.  haha  I think I'm probably just putting too much pressure on myself over it!

  • Man, that's sucks that you have to entertain two nights in a row.  I honestly don't know that I'd be down for that.  What happened to superbowl/birthday party in one night?

If you're a better wife than I am, I'd just throw a party like usual on Saturday night since Sunday everyone will be occupied with football.  Some apps, tons of drinks (for our crowd), and a few backup games in case things start getting dull.  Depending on the size of the crowd, here are my favorites:

    Dicecapades

    Left Center Right

    30 Seconds

But again, it all depends on the vibe and size of the crowd.  Like brittjoy, most of our parties are a lot of drinking and socializing.

  • How about video games? Video games, beer and snack food and they're set.

  • I think his decision was based on alcohol.  lol  He wants everyone to be able to have drinks and not be worried about work the next day, so he opted for Saturday.  But, ya know.....I'm sure drinks will be had Sunday as well.  I'm sure it will be fine.  And I like the idea of having games on hand in case it gets dull.  Thanks for letting me ramble to you guys.  DH offers no input whatsoever on these things!
  • I'm with pp's in that no theme is needed.  Just socializing and drinking is fine.  If you really feel like having something on hand just in case, then yes a game that is crowd-size appropriate is great.  If you're expecting a lot of people I don't think video games would be the best option...that's 2-4 people being entertained at a time tops.
  • A lady over on entertaining recommended having a football pool for winning team and score. May be a fun idea since a lot of people will be at both shindigs.
  • Our parties are usually centered around FOOD.  LOL   We don't usually need more than food, drinks and the people.  We're always fine just eating drinking and chatting it up.  Of course the boys end up playing some video games, sometimes even with the kiddos.  The girls just love to chat.  Sometimes we also have a movie or some show on.  We make up reasons to get together just so we can do all of these all of the time... :)
