I didn't realize tonight is The State of the Union until it came on TV just now.

Re: confession: my failure as an American

  • I've become cynical in my old age. It's just a big sales pitch by the president to ensure his second term in office.

  • Am I more of a failure if I knew it was on and chose not to watch it?  I never really see the point in it.
  • sorry, can't stand to hear the b!tching for 90 minutes -- it will make my brain hurt

H is on his ipad in the living room with it on, so I decided to come to the computer room and hang out for a while.  I feel like it's a big sales pitch and really doesn't mean anything.

  • I chose not to watch, and I'm not a bad American :o)

I kept up with the highlights and funny commentary on Twitter....that makes me an evil American.

  • I also knew it was on and chose not to watch...the baby was asleep, are you kidding me, you think I'm going to sacrifice precious time I could be showering, getting stuff ready for the next day and doing laundry to listen when I can get a recap the next day? H tried to give me crap for it and I'm like...don't discourage me from keeping up with the housework!

  • I chose not to watch. I heard the speech actually wasn't all fluff and BS last night, but there's such a clear division between Dems and Repubs that watching their reactions to the speech - and one another - irritates me. I just want to walk through the TV screen, shake every single one of them and tell them to get their sh!t together and run our freaking country like we elected them to do.

The commentary on Twitter and FB amused me for awhile though. :P

  • I don't think we have something like this... Hmmmm....  Interesting.  I've heard the expression before or something so I think I have some clue what it is...

If there was something like this in Canada, DH would probably listen to it and I would ignore it probably almost completely or maybe check the recap/highlights.

  • I am shocked! Wink I like to watch any time the president is addressing the nation.

I did watch most of it. Nate woke up right after it started, so I had to calm him down for a few minutes, then I had to finish cleaning the bathrooms, but I could still hear it.

My impressions: it's easy to be optimistic about the economy and unemployment when you have a freaking job, Mr President. Also, I don't see how a college education will ever be affordable for all Americans, considering this:

That's kind of an old graphic, but it illustrates my point. Anyway, I think Nate will have to go to college in Kenya.
