Which sippy cup do you use/like? I want to get Allie to take water but so far the sippy cup we bought she does not seem to like..or just has not caught on!
Re: sippy cup
I wish I could be of some help but L has no interest in one. We have bought 4 or 5 different kinds and she just kinda throws them around. Although she tends to actually put the toss-a-way ones in her mouth..lol
I recommend these: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.spiltmilkmoms.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/nuby2.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.spiltmilkmoms.com/2010/07/07/sippy-cup-guide/&usg=__165BtBVnQY73XBRneYoy-3mirww=&h=350&w=303&sz=29&hl=en&start=19&zoom=1&tbnid=XGDHayzLVOPiIM:&tbnh=159&tbnw=138&ei=Bn4_TdWFJZD2swOzxuGzBQ&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dnuby%2Bsippy%2Bcup%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1366%26bih%3D651%26tbs%3Disch:10,889&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=922&vpy=74&dur=226&hovh=241&hovw=209&tx=102&ty=137&oei=-X0_TYu2BI-2sAP2-uDwBA&esq=2&page=2&ndsp=18&ved=1t:429,r:16,s:19&biw=1366&bih=651
Nuby soft spout cups. They make all different ones, with handles, without handles, sport tops. They are soft, gummy like spouts similar to a bottle nipple so I found that Domenic liked these the best when he was first learning. Also these cups do NOT have the annoying valves that you need to take out, wash, replace, lose, etc. I haven't had any issues with them leaking either.
We have Born Free, Dr. Brown, Tommy Tippee, a Sigg water bottle, and a few other kinds (maybe Gerber? I can't remember). She is not interested in any of them, except to throw them on the floor. She does sometimes tip them to her mouth and play with them, but she has never had a drink out of them.
She IS interested in a regular glass, which I let her use, but she obviously can't work it herself yet. Even then, when she finds out there's water in it she gags and pushes it away.
So.... I guess what I'm saying is- we're in the same boat and I'm no help!
I'm looking forward to seeing suggestions.
Ugh I feel your pain. Ben was easy, he didn't care. Maddy refuses to take a bottle and doesn't want a sippy yet either. We've tried:
Nuby soft spout
Munchkin soft spout
Nuk
Playtex
Those are what I have from Ben. After spending like $40 on different bottles to try to get her to take one I am hating the idea of spending money on sippies too. I may try a Born Free one soon but that's it. I didn't even think of the take & toss ones I have for Ben, will try those tomorrow!

Yes...we are using a straw sippy as well.
Owen has NO desire to lift his arms for the other ones. The Take and Toss he will sometimes use. Lots of times I have to hold.
First few times we gave G water it was from one of our glasses. then we did the take and toss, but since they leak easily - it was messy - but it gave her the idea that water was in there.
Now we use the Tommy Tippee and she loves it.
This is exactly what happens at our house too!
One other thing to keep in mind too - she probably doesn't have a clue what the cup is for. If you have a cup with a valve in it that you are using, take the valve out, and let her play with the cup. Tip the cup into her mouth and let some water dribble in, so she knows that there is something in the cup. Its going to be a little wet, and messy without the valve but at least she'll know there is something to work at in the cup.
You could also put BM/formula in the cup at first to get her used to it, cause thats a taste she is familiar with. She might not like water cause its a different thickness, and taste, or maybe its too cold....
