Took me an hour to drive 95 from Dysart's to Etna

I had my Dr appointment with the new PA today at 4 in Hampden. I got on 95N in Pittsfield at 2:45 to see a car off the road, a trooper and an ambulance right at the end of the on ramp. There was some kind of accident just before the on ramp too that I saw while merging,

The speed limit is lowered to 45 and I obey, the road looks ok, but you can tell where it might be black ice.

Two cars go off the road in front of me just after Newport. One flew off right and sent up a plume of snow and was so far over the bank that you couldn't see it as you go by, the other one a yellow SUV that had passed me going 65 with it's whole back end up over the guard rail on the left.

I continue to obey the 45 limit and get to the Dr at 3:40, so it took an hour rather than the usual 45 min. I get in to see the Dr. early and get out of the appointment before 4:00.

Get back to 95S ext 180 from downtown Hampden about 4. Traffic is backed up and barely moving. I have to merge on into a line of cars.

Spend an hour to get from exit 180 Dysart's to exit 167 Etna/Dixmont. At the Etna exit there are 3 troopers and a car way off the road in the median at you go over that Etna/Dixmont hill and the median gets really wide.  13 miles in an hour!!

Took another half hour to get from exit 167 to exit 150, 17 miles in 30 minutes.

The road didn't look like anything was wrong, but clearly not safe. Be careful out there!

  • Glad you got home safe!! I drove from Augusta to the Newport exit. It was dicey the whole way up, but the worst was right after the Pittsfield exit. Everyone was  doing about 35 and I was still sliding a little!
  • yikes yikes yikes!  Glad you made it to and from your destination in one piece!

  • Glad you made it safely.  It was yucky out there..and nothing was canceled. But I guess if we cancel for every storm, then nothing would ever be open.

  • I am glad that I didn't have to drive on the turnpike yesterday.  I didn't think the driving was that bad and I probably would have been one of the people who ended up in an accident because of it!

  • i had to go to Yarmouth yesterday.  The snow was so pretty, but with the extreme cold it made the roads pretty slick.

    Thank goodness for Subarus.

    Mmmmmmm....Dysarts.

The thought did cross my mind to wait out the traffic over a 'home-cooked' meal.
