Ruth's Chris coming to GR?
I read a blurb on one of those "Hey Newsweek, you suck" groups on FB that says 1913 Room is closing and Ruth's Chris will move in to that space.
Re: Ruth's Chris coming to GR?
It was just announced about 10 minutes ago:

The news makes me ridiculously mad. I don't understand why they'd ditch a successful local restaurant in favor of a franchised place. Argh.
Regarding the restaurant though...
I've never heard of Ruth Chris, but the article that Chymes posted is interesting.
I agree that it's disappointing that a local restaurant is closing to make room for a chain.
But the article also says that they're trying to attract more visitors to the restaurant and currently the majority of 1913 Room visitors are locals. While the intention to attract more travelers make sense, I also feel like travelers are increasingly interested at eating a non-chain restaurants to experience the local flavor, you know? Maybe they just needed to morph the 1913 Room into something a bit less pretentious (IMO), but still local.
I agree with this. There was plenty they could do to The 1913 Room to update it and make it a little more inviting. Heck, they did that to Cygnus a couple of years ago and have had success there.
They'd be more likely to get our business if they did that, rather than making it into a still-overpriced fancy chain place like RC. We went once, in Indy, for our anniversary a few year ago. It was good, albeit pricey. And at this stage in our lives, I'd rather spend that priciness on a great local place.
