Sorry if this has already been posted about!
Just wondering if you all are doing anything fun with your tax returns. We are still waiting on Hubby's w-2, but I already started our taxes on Turbo tax since I have all my stuff, and just did a rough guess on Hubby's to get an idea about how much we might get back.
We both decided that we should put the money towards paying off some bills. Therefore the money is already spent and we don't even have it yet! UGH!!!
Some day I hope to have enough money to be able to not be in debt and use tax returns on something fun!
Anyone else already know what they are using it on?
Re: tax returns
You and I must be on the same brain wave this morning - I was just coming over here to post the same question! :-)
I'm in the middle of figuring ours right now, but we can't file until mid-Feb since we itemize deductions for mortgage interest, etc.
We decided if we get a big enough return to put half towards bills and half towards our (hopeful) safari in the fall.
We're putting whatever we get towards a kitchen remodel. I CANNOT wait to have a nice kitchen.
Our current kitchen is functional, but annoying. The counter tops are white tile, which I can't stand. The appliances are all "bisque". The refrigerator whines, LOUDLY. And the hood on the stove extends like 3" past the edge of the stove (there was originally a bigger stove at some point) and I hit my head on it all the time. Not to mention, I have NO room for my blender, kitchenaid mixer and food processor. There isn't even enough space under the cabinets for the mixer to fit!
We already have a bunch saved for it and I'm not putting anything fancy in, as we hope to be moving in 5-10 years and don't want to over improve.

Had a dream I was queen.
Woke up. Still queen.
Jeremy got his W-2 but I haven't gotten mine back yet. When I do get mine, I'm giving them to my parents to let a family friend file them like they've always done for me/them. I wouldn't know what to do with them anyway and the dude knows what he's doing.
Whatever we do get back, I want to split between paying off bills and savings. Depending on what we do get back, we MIGHT get a new tv but that's a big maybe. We'll probably save most of it since I'm not sure if I'll be working this summer or not and will need to use that to live.

we're still waiting on 1 of don's w2's, but we have everything else...hopefully we can file at the end of next week.
a small part of the money will go towards are week at the beach over our 1yr anniversary w/ his family and the rest is going towards help paying for his truck loan that he owes on that ive talked about previously.
ugh - sounds like most of us are old married couples.
DH and I have yet to even guess what we'll get back. We also itemize - and this year I think we'll be able to deduct the mortgage interest, etc from BOTH of our homes. DH thinks we're using it towards finishing the basement and the updates we want to do in the kitchen. I'd like to use it to pay the hospital bills for this LO and to save the rest for when I'm on maternity leave. We'll fight that battle when we get the money.

So, any money we get back will go towards that.

I was thinking about this too last night. Wow, everyone is expecting a tax refund? I just hope that I don't have to pay. It's not like I make that much money since my crappy job doesn't pay much. But I almost owed around $1,000 last year. What saved me was that I was a part-time student.
I need money to get my car fixed, for our trip to Hawaii, and to start saving for a house...but I doubt I'll get that much back.
Same with us, so I don't know what it's going to be. Whatever we get back we have to put new tires on my Tahoe, which will most likely cost around 900 dollars from the prices we have been pulling so far. We normally get like 1500-2000 each so maybe it will be the same.
Crap, that's expensive. That's the one thing I miss about my first real boyfriend - he managed a tire shop and got me awesome tires at cost. I like to drive fast, and I need good tires for that!
I would recommend Costco, if you have a membership. I've bought from a few different ones, and their employees seem really honest. I went in a few weeks ago and asked to have mine checked, and the guy was like, eh, you don't need them yet. Give it another 6 mo.
Yea I needed some months ago but have been putting it off, most of my tread is gone. And before we get bad weather here (usually Febuary) I need to get new ones. Someone else told me about Costco, I might check that out. I don't have a membership but it might be worth getting one if the tires are cheaper.
I'd check it out! Their prices are online, so you can easily see if it'd be cheaper.
Shocker, twinsies. DH always owes and my uncle accountant suggested we file separately, since I hardly get a big return. I'm using my measly $200-ish for our annual girls trip to Vegas. Hopefully next year, DH will have a regular job, not 1099 himself and we will file jointly and get a big return.
