Is this crazy?

First off, I'm new to the Nest (I was a WCF Knottie prior to my wedding in 08, but never made the Nestie transition until now), so hi all.

So here's the background of my situation: It rained on my wedding day, so DH and I got very few good portrait photos together, and nearly none outside like I wanted to.  I've finally gotten around to getting a wedding album put together and I'm realizing how disappointing it is not having a lot of artsy photos of us.  I'd always thought about doing a back-in-the-dress session with DH to try and make up for it.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it I guess), I no longer fit in my wedding dress.  I've lost about 30 lbs recently, which put me at about 15 less than I was on my wedding day, so my dress is pretty big on me.

Here's my question: would it be crazy/ridiculous of me to pay to get my dress altered just so I can have back-in-the-dress photos taken?  TIA!

Re: Is this crazy?

  • Not crazy at all! I'm planning on doing the same thing later this year!
  • Hi I remember you!

No, I don't think you would be crazy to get your dress altered!  You want to look good in your pics.  No sense in paying for a photographer if your dress doesn't fit you right.  I think it would all be worth it in the end, as long as the alterations weren't super expensive.

Oh and congrats on the weight loss!  If you don't mind me asking how did you lose all the weight?  Were you on a specific diet?  I need to lose weight myself so I like to hear about others success stories!

  • Hi! I remember you from your siggy pic! :)

I think it's crazy to get your dress altered, but it's something I would totally do, lol! I wish H and I had more pics of us together. We really weren't together much on our wedding day, to be honest because we were mingling with our guests. My H would look at me like I had 2 heads if I told him I wanted to have more pictures in my dress, let alone pay to have it altered. But I totally understand why you would want to. If your H agrees to have pics taken with you, that's awesome too because mine never would, lol!

Haha, that's why I haven't even mentioned it to him yet.  I'm thinking I could maybe ask for the alterations and photos for my birthday, maybe that would soften the blow, lol.

  • I don't think that's crazy at all!  If you're still thinking about wanting those pics two years after the wedding then I definitely think you should do it!

Thanks so much!  Basically I've been doing the P90X workout program and a not-very-strict version of the Slim-Fast plan.  Frankly, I hate trying to work out on my own and I despise going to the gym, so the P90X program worked really well for me.  The different workouts each day gave me a lot of variety so I didn't get bored quickly, and I really could see the effects quickly, so that kept me motivated.  It caters pretty well to allowing you to modify certain moves to your fitness level, so it really helped me develop at a pace where I felt comfortable too.

As far as the Slim-Fast plan, the new one that they have actually allows for you to eat a 500 calorie meal each day, so that helped alot.  I wasn't super strict when it came to eating the exact things it specified, but I tried to stay around the same caloric intake it specified for each snack/meal.  I've backed off doing this lately and am eating more "normal" food now, but I've noticed that my weeks of calorie counting and portion control have really helped change my eating behavoirs.  I don't deny myself anything now (I'm a sucker for pizza and cookies), I just eat less of it and trade off something else in return for having it

I was really shocked at how quickly the weight came off and how toned I got since all my previous weight loss endeavors failed pretty miserably.  Hopefully that helps!

  • I don't think it's crazy to get your dressed altered, if you really want more pictures. It might not be the type of thing a guy would get so much, so I think asking for it as your birthday gift is a great idea. How can he say no then?

Congrats on your weight loss. I'm a big fan of P90X. Before I got pregnant this time around, I did it to tone up and gain muscle, and was surprized how much I came to love it and would be so sad if I had to miss a day. Once I have the baby, I will definitely be going back to it!

  • Hi I remember you too! :-) Congrats on the weight loss and I would do the same thing as far as taking pictures! I really want to do a TTD session with my H for our 4yr anniversary coming up but I still need to loose a few pounds to fit back in! I would def get it altered though, it also raining a LOT on our wedding day and we didn't get any pictures outside(except for at night thankfully), so I know what you mean!

  • doo itt :)
I don't like my dress any more or I absolutely would.  Congrats on the weight loss too, and on doing P90x.  I work with people who do the workout and I see their pained expressions on their faces some days.

  • Hey! I remember youuuuu!  How have you been?

I def. say to get it done!  I don't think it is crazy at all.  Wedding photos are very important and if you aren't happy with yours then you should try to get some that will make you happy!
