academy awards nominees announced- what have you watched?

hi hi hi!

as some of you may know i've been doing an annual academy awards dinner every year for the past 11 (?) years. i usually make everything from scratch and celebrate the nominees that i want to win. =)

the list of nominees came out today and i'm already studying it.

although this year, i'm not cooking anything 'cause i may be in the hospital, waiting for baby, or recovering at home. hehehe BUT i'm thinking of ordering take out instead.

i haven't seen most of these movies though! has anyone seen any of these movies? tell me what you thought, but no spoilers please =)

Re: academy awards nominees announced- what have you watched?

  • I haven't seen anything this year! But, I really want to see both the King's Speech and Black Swan.
  • i want to see those 2 movies too! i just can't sit in the movie theater without being umcomfy (my butt hurt when i was watching tangled! hahahah)

i hear black swan is really good, but disturbing. i hear it's not a movie you want to take your mom to. heheh

i only saw inception. the problem was that it was so hyped up that i was expecting so much more for some reason.

  • i am on a movie role this year....btw not a fan of inception either thought it was a beuatiful film from a visual point of view but the story eh

    so here goes

The Fighter and True Grit-loved them probably my favorite movies of the season (but still have not see King's Speech)

Black Swan-some good performances but a little too sensationalist for my taste

    Blue Valentine-Not a fan

    Toy Story 3 (loved)

How to Tame your Dragon (loved)

127 hours-great movie but boy does it make one uncomfortable

Social Network  depressing interesting film but honestly I do not think it is Oscar worthy

Restrepo-great documenatry very important to see-makes me so angry that we are still in afghanistan

there are a couple of films that i still need to see- Biutiful (lve javier bardem)  the kids are all right, wasteland, the town, and winter's tale,

  • What about EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP?????????????????

Everybody's seen that, right?  If not, what are you waiting for - it's on Netflix, including streaming, on DVD, on Hulu, on Video on Demand.

    Run, run!

(sorry, shameless self-promotion - for anyone who is not FB friends with me, we distributed the film, and I have been very personally involved with it).

But seriously, it's a really good movie.  I've seen it like 10 times and I still love it.  :)

Also, The Kids Are All Right is a film that we were very involved with -- did the financing and legal and sales, and we rep the writer/director.  It was a fun movie, but I do think my favorite movie this year was The Social Network.  I love it.  I liked The Fighter too.  In general I love Aronofsky but I agree that I was kind of meh about Black Swan.

  • Loved toy story 3! I was bawling. But that was when my gma had passed & I was pg but didn't know it... So... Hormones... Haha

yeah I heard that BS was done well, but my friends couldn't say that they liked it liked it...

Anna I loved exit!!!! I posted on your status update but it's under my fake jasmine name, so folks forget I'm jenn hahaha I forgot, but mr. BW is French right?and banksy is British? I'm looking for French and British restaurants for take out. Hehehe

  • I'm not big on going to the movie theater (other than the drive in during the summer) so I'm just proud that I have seen ONE of these movies.  DH and I went to see King's Speech a couple weekends ago after seeing Colin Firth on the Daily Show.  It was good :)

Movies might be a new trend for me because I was contemplating going to see Blue Valentine this weekend.

  • We have seen a few Inception, Social Network True Grit and really like all them for different reasons. Still would love to see The Kings Speech.

Inception was a great film, but found that you have to see it more than once, to actually to get it to make sense. I think if they will take anything, it would be for Visual Effects. It might also win the Sound category.

Social Network: Loved the writing. It was so impressive, right from the start of the film where Mark's charachter is having quite the conversation with his girlfriend, then soon to be ex. As for best film, hard to say, there is quite a few good ones in the running.

True Grit: I am HUGE fan of the Coen Brothers and this is just another great film my them. Jeff Bridges character is brilliant. I am not sure he will win best actor though, but if he does I would be happy. Hailee Steinfeld was so impressive. She just  might have a chance on the Supporting Actress.

***msmoore*** sending lots of good luck you way for Exit through the Gift Shop. I haven't seen it, but will try and catch it soon!

***kini*** hi hi hi, sounds like maybe your little lc might just possibly share a birthday with me Big Smile
