Poll (kind of): What has The Nest taught you?
Surely I can't be the only one who has learned some new things as a result of being on the message boards here... so...
What kind of things have you learned from The Nest?

Re: Poll (kind of): What has The Nest taught you?
I'm with BoyMom. I used the word twatwaffle in an e-mail I sent my sister the other day, and she died laughing. I think she's using it now...
I've learned that you can make some awesome friends without ever meeting face to face. I've gotten some great advice from the boards, too.
I had no idea the types of dog foods from WalMart were essentially 'crap'. No clue. We have always fed our dogs different types of food bought from WalMart... as has just about everyone I know. Now, we switched them to a better quality food from the feed store... as have my parents and other family members. And, I could totally tell a difference in my dogs.
Really, lurking on Pets has taught me a lot about so many different things.
There are also the all kinds of awesome words, like BoyMom mentioned!
From lurking on GP and The Bump, I learned that all those things that go on with your body actually mean something. I mean, I always noticed... but I never knew there was a real reason for it.
Also? There are allllll kinds of extremely screwed up people out there.
What kind of dog food do you buy now and what is the junk at Wal-Mart? That is where I buy mine and my puppy doesn't seem to be putting on much weight and I wonder if its the food.
Oh and I totally agree with your second statement I bolded. I wonder how some people still function.
I also agree with Eb on having friends you never see face to face.
I to have learned alot of different words that use often now. C even uses some of them.
Ditto TJ about the dog/cat food. I had no idea until people mentioned it on the nest.
I feel like I have formed more solid opinions on controversial issues. For example, the death penalty. I never had an opinion about it because I had never really thought about it. But there was a discussion on here about it and it got me to think about what I really believe.
How many couples have fertility issues. And that scares me to death! That would be such a hard thing to deal with, and I really hope DH and I don't have to. I never knew how common it was.
A lot of things about kids: cloth diapers (I really didn't know people still used CDs!), breastfeeding, birth experiences, etc.

I think the nest has taught me to open up more and to be more confident in myself. Usually I wouldn't say anything that might upset someone because I just didn't want to deal with confrotation. But now I feel like I can actually participate in a grown up debate with someone without feeling like I'm a little kid and being yelled at.
ETA: As a result of this I have become more snarky IRL.
Ha ha ha ha ha.
What some people call being "MM" is what I call "house poor"
As osuwifey said - you can make friends without ever meeting face to face (although I have met a lot of you and tend to run into Ami quite a bit)
Names to call people (twatwaffle being one of them)
Some people feel more confident "hiding" behind a user name and thus, act like a$$holes.
