Paper

I'm sure we'll be discussing anniversary gifts lots over the next few weeks. But I'm curious as to how many of you are sticking to the traditional anniversary gifts. We plan on it. We have friends who follow "the rules" diligently, they have been married 7 years and it's pretty cool the gifts they have come up with over the years. We are still undecided as to whether or not we will go away for the weekend.

Here is what I have come up with for 'Paper':

- Painting/Poster/Photo

- Tickets (concert, movie, sporting event, airplane, gift certificate)

- Book

- Roadmap for a weekend trip

Toughts? Ideas? What are you doing? Are you going away?

Re: Paper

  • We are actually trying to go to Napa/San Francisco during May, so our plane tickets will count as paper, and we are also doing a Cards game for 4th of July...so our anniversary gifts to each other will be a little late.

  • We plan to stick to the traditional gifts. :)  I told H that it could be loosely interpreted. As in, "Please don't buy me a package of lined paper!"  (I normally wouldn't mind that but I've got enough lined paper, hehe)

As for what I'm getting him, I went with hockey tickets.  His favourite team only plays our hometown team twice a year (once there and once here) and it just so happens that the two are playing on Feb 13 (a month before our anniversary).  So he'll get the big part of his present early.  I'm going to get him something small for our actual anniversary, just not sure what.  Maybe I can nab some ideas from you ladies! :)

  • I'm thinking of getting tickets to a Broadway show.  We had hopped to go away for our anniversary but I don't know if I'll be up for traveling far so we're better off staying close.  We'll have a nice dinner somewhere and then go to a show after.

Part of me was thinking of going back to the piano bar we went to for my bachelorette party - going with our wedding party, but we'll see.

  • We have been talking about going to Dallas and getting a hotel room the weekend of our anniversary. That way, we can drop Smush off at grandma's and we can enjoy ourselves without spending a lot of money.

He has been saying he wants to go see Martin Short when he comes to Tulsa, so maybe I'll get him tickets to that.

  • We are sticking to the traditional gifts too. Although, I don't know that DH has really thought of it that way. Stick out tongue We got tickets to do to Disney World since I've never been. We are also doing some gifts for each other ($20 max) with the stipulation that we have to get creative.

I haven't a clue what to do with that part though. We are doing the same thing for Valentine's day and I just got that idea last night!

  • I think we've decided we're going to take a road trip to Phoenix for the weekend. We're planning on getting tickets to a Phoenix Coyotes hockey game for the Saturday and maybe go out for a nice dinner. The tickets will equal our paper.

  • I told DH that our first anniversary was the paper anniversary.  His response:  "I bought you the paper for Christmas." "Yes, dear.  You did subscribe to the newspaper for me.  That doesn't count as an anniversary present."  "Oh.  Bummer."

I don't know what we'll actually do.  I was thinking about actually putting our photos into a book and get a snapfish/kodak/etc. for our parents.
