HELP!!! How do I get out vomit smell from carpet?

My toddler got sick all over the floor yesterday. I've cleaned it a handful of times but the horrible milk vomit smell remains. HELP! I need suggestions.

Re: HELP!!! How do I get out vomit smell from carpet?

  • Nature's Miracle.

We've used it on carpet, bedding and laundry.

  • Nature's Miracle from Petsmart or Petco. It's an enzymatic cleaner that breaks down the odor in urine, poo and vomit. Works like a charm for any pet or human messes that we have at our house!

  • First, you need to get rid of any stain.  For that I recommend Resolve Spot Shot this is different from the Resolve Carpet Cleaner.

If there is still a smell after the Spot Shot, vacuum the area well.  Dampen with white vinegar and shut the husband, kids, dog out of the room for 24 hours.  After 24 hours, the smell should be gone.  If the white vinegar does not work, try baking soda.  Liberally pour baking soda over the stain and shut the husband, kids, dog out of the room for 24 hours.  After this 24 hours, the smell should hopefully be gone.

  • It looks like you've already received some great suggestions, but I would also like to recommend using Lysol.  I use it on my carpet when my cat gets sick and it does a great job.  Good luck.
  • Thanks everyone.

I tried the oxyclean and that didn't work but I'll give the other options a try.

  • Spray the spot in vinegar/water until it is soaking wet. Then cover the spot in baking soda until you can see that it is not soaking up the moisture. Then pour one more box of baking soda on top of that. Let it sit for at least 8 hours. Then remove the bulk of the baking soda and and then vacuum. Don't vacuum unless the spot is dry though. The baking soda will soak up any traces of the vomit left in the carpet. The vinegar will neutralize the smell.
  • Don Aslett's X-O cleaner--available on QVC.  Read the reviews to see if it's for you.  It's helped me to get rid of pet accident smells.  Good luck!!
