:(

On OKC Pups (FB) a few days ago there was this darling salt and pepper miniature schnauzer that had been found in Norman.  She totally made me go "I love her!" when I saw her picture.

I told myself that if they weren't able to find her a home, I would at least foster this adorable dog until the owners were found...maybe even look into having my grandparents adopt her since they've always had schnauzers.  She had a schnauzer hair cut (recently groomed) and I couldn't imagine the owners weren't desperately looking for her.

My friend (who runs the okc pups page with another girl) called me today to let me know they guy who had her had taken her to Norman Animal Welfare without telling her.  She's been there since the 21st.  Dogs are usually given 5 days for the owners to be found.  No one has called on her.

Here's what's sad--the schnauzer is 12 years old.  No teeth.  She's eating well according to them and doesn't appear to have any health issues.  They said she's sweet, appears good with other dogs, and is a lap dog.  They said that it was obviously someone's dog by the way it acted/was groomed.

Would it be ridiculous for me to go get her?  She is 12, I know...probably only has a year or so left, if that.  I also was concerned at her age if it would be inappropriate for me to go get her since I have a 3 year old American Bulldog female (100lbs) that is very active and a 5 year old active schnauzer at home already.  I don't know if that would be a compatible mix with an older dog....plus a crazy two year old.

I am aware that there are thousands of dogs that need homes, and that it would probably be better to go and try to save a younger dog in some people's  eyes.  I just feel awful for her.  By looking at her that first day, I knew someone was going to sweep in and pick her up immediately.  Now that I know she's a senior dog, there's probably little to no chance. Crying

  • No, not crazy at all! Sometimes, you just know. She's meant for you.
  • I tend to agree with amanjay. Don't beat yourself up if you decide not to get her, but no, I don't think you're crazy for wanting to do this!

  • Since you sound so smitten with her, I think it would be worth visiting her at the shelter. She sounds pretty low maintenance. After being in a loving home all her life, it has to be a huge shock to end up like this. Sad

  • Great news--a lady has already said she wants her and is supposedly going to get her tomorrow.  I told my friend that if she doesn't go get her, that I will.  I'm so glad someone wants her!  I totally do...she's precious.

YAY!!!!  It made me sad to think about her not having a home :(  I hope that the lady picks her up, but if she doesn't I think it's great that you're going to get her. Smile
