As promised, i will be weighing myself today (in just a bit before i take my shower). I probably won't share the results b/c they are not going to be happy.

Otherwise, ive been eating pretty well and stuff...not exercising though :(. shame on me.

Re: Health & Fitness Wednesday

  • I haven't really been eating. But yesterday I went and got a Five Guys Burger, drank a soda. Probably shouldn't have. Trying to make my way to the gym this morning. I haven't weighed myself yet.

  • I'm horrible at weighing myself. I used to take it in the mornings before I got in the shower, but since I've been showering at night....I always forget! Plus, I don't like weighing myself at night before my shower cause it usually ends up being right after dinner. I'll have to figure out a new routine.

Last week I only made it to the gym once....this week I've been twice so far. But probably won't end up going any more than that. Ugh. And my eating....it could be a lot worse, but I really need to stop eating crappy snacks here at work. Stupid people keep bringing in cookies/chocolate/etc.

I signed up for SparkPeople last week and have been using that to track my calories....it can be hard sometimes, mainly for dinners since it's such a combo of stuff. I'm trying to be good about tracking but sometimes I forget.

  • Two weeks ago I learned that my cholesterol levels are really high, and the doctor is giving me three months until I have to retest (and start medication if needed). I'm 24.

Husband and I rearranged our budget so that this past Monday night we were able to join a gym. Yesterday I worked out to Jillian Michael's 30 Day Shred (which was tough! I briefly worked out regularly before the wedding last spring, but it has been a while since I really pushed myself fitness wise.  We plan on hitting the gym tonight.

  • Newstart - several years ago my H's dad was told his cholesterol was high. The doctor told him he needed to do something physical to lower it. He walks 2 miles every night after dinner (they live in a small neighbor hood - he walks around the block 6 times - he measured a mile in the car.) He has not only gotten his cholesterol down (without medication or anything) but he also lost about 20 pounds. Just from walking.

As for me, DH and I are usually pretty good about eating decent. I don't typically eat a lot of junk (I mean, I will occasionally have chips or a snack, but most days I'm good) and our means are pretty well rounded. However I really should start working out. I'm so lazy when it comes to working out. I'm so out of shape. I really need to do something.

I'm thinking about doing a few things. I kind of want to start running. I've never really been a runner. One of my BM is training for a marathon, and has already run a half. She never used to be a runner. At all. Any tips on how to start running? Has anyone done C25K? I am also thinking about buying either p90x or 30 Day Shred....any suggestions on either of those? Since I'm unemployed, we can't really afford 50+ bucks a month for gym membership, so I'm looking for good workouts I can do at home!

  • C25K is a great way to get started. It was how I initially started running and within a year a starting the program I ran 1 half and had already begun training for a second HM.

I have been pretty sick for the past week, but finally made it to the gym yesterday. I have a snow day today and will at least do some type of video if I don't make it to the gym. I'd like to lose weight, but I'd feel pretty good if I could just get back into a routine of going to the gym at least 4 days a week. Eating well and working out seem to go hand in hand for me.

Yay!  I am going to try starting a weekly running  post probably in February sometime.  A few of us on here are new runners.  The biggest advice I can give you is to go slow.  When I first tried running, I pushed myself to go at a faster pace than I should have.  It wore me out and made me feel that I would never be a runner.  Then, I took a class (at SAU before I graduated) and learned to pace myself.  It worked!  Even though I felt bad at first, being slower than a lot of people, it really helped.  I could run much farther at a slower pace and it felt a lot better.  You should try it!  We're all here to help each other out  :)

  • Newstart- my doc told me I had high cholesterol when I was 21!  I got it down by doing a lot of walking and eating more cholesterol friendly foods, like oatmeal, avocado, and almonds.  They are yummy and good for you!

Although, lately I've been slacking on the high-fiber foods that are good for lowering the bad cholesterol.  I need to start the oatmeal up again, but I need to train myself to eat/get up earlier to do that.
