Disney Help

OK guys I need help.  We were planning on doing 3 nights at Disney and 3 nights on the Disney Dream, but we've changed our mind about doing the cruise (the only rooms available have a private veranda and DH will LOSE HIS MIND if he thinks his kids can jump off the ship).  So now we're pretty much set that we want to go to Disney, and do one day at Universal so Peter can see Spiderman.  And I'll put this out there too, we have about $4K to spend.  Is it better, do you think, to stay at the Contemporary for 5 nights, and have to pay for flights and food out of pocket (plus anything else we want to buy) - or to stay at the Pop Century for 6 nights and pay for maybe a day's worth of food out of pocket (plus anything else we want to buy)?  I'm not sure what we should do.  Charlie will be 17 months at the time we go.  If we go for five nights at the Contemporary, we'd fly in on a Saturday and out on a Thursday, so we'd have M, T, W, and TH, thinking that we'd do 3 days at Disney and one at Universal.  If we go for six nights at Pop Century, we'd have an extra day, and so maybe throw in Downtown Disney.  Is 6 nights too much?  Is 5 not enough?  HELP! :)

Re: Disney Help

  • When we went in November G was 7 months and my nephew was 18 months.  My ILs went to parks 6 days I believe - mostly because the first day was only a couple hours (that's a whole other story), but then the other 5 days they would go for a couple hours and then go back to the room and then go for a few hours.  It also allowed time to ride rides more than once if LO loved it.

I can tell you DH, G, and I went to the parks 5 days for a few hours at a time and got in most stuff, although it was a little stressful and she was asleep for a lot of it.  You'll be surprised how many rides the kiddos can actually go on and depending on the time of year, lines could be longer than when we went.

We did 6 mights and I thought it was fine with LO's so you didn't have to spend ALL day at the park and it would be more relaxing so you could go back to the room if you wanted.

Others might disagree though and I guess it depends on your vacation style and your family.  Can you do it in 5 nights...probably.  My style would be to have the extra day so you can go back and ride other rides if you wanted to or so you can relax a bit by the hotel pool?.

Definitely shop around for park tix - we ended up finding a deal where if you bought 3 days of tix you got 4 days free (I think it was a travelocity deal).

    Good luck!

  • Send me your email.  We go to Disney twice a year with our Disney timeshare.

  • Beckypellegrino at yahoo. Thanks!
  • Staying on property definitely has it advantages:  Extra Magic Hours, the meal plan. Transportation.

If you are planning on going to Universal you will need to rent a car.  Are you planning on renting one for the entire week?  If so, look into staying off property and getting a condo with a full kitchen and 2 bedrooms. I've done this the past 2 times we were there.  Some even offer transportation to the parks so you don't have to pay to park the car.  You can save money on breakfast, lunch and snacks.  They allow you to bring food into the parks.  It works great.

As far as the meal plan is concerned, I am not one to stop what I am doing in a park to make a reservation so if you are the same way you can just get the least expensive one. I think it is 2 counter and maybe a full meal.  I'm not sure.  I do know that if you are in the hotel for 6 days you need to pay for 6 days of the meal plan, etc.  You can just choose 4 days of a meal plan.

Is 7 days not an option?  The only reason I ask is going to a park every day can be exhausting.  having that extra day will give you and the kids a day to rest at the pool, go to downtown disney, sleep in, whatever.  You have to figure that even an early flight in won't get you into your hotel until about noon.  You could head to a park that day but why waste a day ticket.

If you can fly on a Tuesday or wed, it can save some money too.  SW is the cheapest on those days.
