Best product to get out carpet stains??

My daughter had the stomach flu and vomited on the rug.  Ick.  I used the Pet Stain carpet remover that we have and my hand held steam cleaner but there is still a reddiht stain.

Any recommendations on a good product to try before I resort to calling in Stanley Steamer??

  • I'm going to answer myself in case anyone else could use the info!

I used diluted laundry detergent and hot water.  Scrub the stain (after blotted the mess obviously) and then rinse.  It'll take awhile to dry but seems to be gone!  Smells great too.

  • I inherited a pale lilac carpet with my house.   Too pale for my lifestyle.  I have found Resolve Spot Shot to be very effective for getting out dirt and food stains.
  • I've always used Resolve. That stuff gets out dang near any stains (dark spots and red clay).

  • I have tried TONS of things to get up vomit/urine/etc. from our light colored carpets and the only thing I've found that actually works is Oxy Clean Laundry Stain Remover (it's great for laundry but also does wonders on your carpet)!

I spray it on the stain and let it set for about 10 minutes (give or take depending on the severity of the spot or how long it's been there).  Then I blot it up with an old towel and then lightly "fluffy" the carpet back out by gently rubbing a clean area of the towel back and forth.  I've had stains that were set in for months that came out with this stuff.  I've also pulled up grease and ink with it too!

  • I have two cats and a 2 year old DD and the best product by FAR is Folex.  Folex is found at Bed, Bath and Beyond.  It's my holy grail product.  Serioulsy!!
