DH and I are trying to plan a vacation for this summer, but we can't decide where to go. We want to go somewhere nice and relaxing, but where there is still stuff to do. We want to go somewhere nice, but also somewhere that doesn't break the bank (we just bough a house and have projects we want to do). Has anyone been anywhere recently that they would recommend or heard of anywhere good? TIA!

I HIGHLY recommend Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. We went there for our honeymoon in October and it was Amazing! We stayed at The Royal which is adult only all-inclusive and only 2 blocks off of 5th Avenue which includes a lot of shopping, restaurants, and bars/clubs.
The hotel is located right on the beach - a swimming beach - and is walking distance from the ferry that runs to Cozumel which is also an amazing place to spend a day trip.
The restaurants at the hotel have great food that you wouldn't expect for an all-inclusive. For our week honeymoon we paid $3,000 for flight, transportation to/from airport (best day travels - I highly recommend) and the all-inclusive hotel.
PM me if you want more information!
DH and I went to Playa del Carmen a few years ago, and we also really liked it. There were lots of things to do, including beach activities, historical stuff like the Mayan ruins, and you can do excursions that are outdoorsy.
We've also been to and really enjoyed Puerto Rico. It was a bit cheaper than Mexico (but it's not all-inclusive) with amazing beaches, great restaurants, and historical Old San Juan. The flights might be cheaper for you from the east coast, and you don't need a passport.

What about going to Bermuda? I've heard it's really nice and only a short flight.
Other options: cruise, Bahamas, Mexico, Dominican Republic.
Or what about staying domestic and going to a place like Charleston, Savannah, Miami, the Keys or even the US Virgin Islands.

My cousins went to St. Croix over Thanksgiving for a random getaway. They LOVED it and did a ton of hiking, with also a good amount of beach/pool time. Their resort was not all inclusive, but they loved all the restaurants and bars on the island. They rented a Jeep and I believe also did a Jeep tour which was fun. I don't think the trip was incredibly expensive.
The California coast would be really fun if you wanted something different and to do driving, sight-seeing, hiking, wine tastings, and beaching. The only thing that sucks is you'd have to pay for a flight, which I'm sure can be kind of pricey. Same with Hawaii. There is sooooooo much to do and it is amazing, but the flights are very expensive and time-consuming in themselves. But it is so worth the money!
Also ditto what all the others have said about Playa del Carmen/Riviera Maya. We stayed went to Cozumel in May '08 after graduating college, and we stayed at the Cozumel Palace resort. It was very nice, but I have to say if we went back to that area again, we'd stay on the mainland (you can see the mainland in the horizon from the west side of Cozumel, where our resort was). There's a lot to do in Playa. It's really pretty!
One thing I do recommend is possibly meeting with a travel agent, esp if you have Triple A, if you want to do a lot of things. They can really offer a lot of perks and help you coordinate which makes the trip planning so much easier. We used a travel agent for Cozumel and it made everything so nice and easy. I really wish we would have done it for Hawaii.
