Finally - SNOW!

How's everyone this morning?  Any of you east coasters working today?

We had a crazy night last night - took us 3 and a half frickin' hours to drive the 10 miles home from work last night.  On the way home we saw 8+ cars off in the median, 1 county bus off the side of the road, 1 bus wedged and stuck across both lanes of a busy highway so that no one (except my determined husband in our big 4WD could get past), 25+ cars stuck and not able to make it up the small hills, got out and pushed 4 cars up the hills to get them out of the way - all within 5 miles of work!  Thank God we have a 4WD.  We needed it last night!

When we finally made it to the main road outside of our complex, people were driving the wrong way up the divided road because so many were stuck on the other side of the road. So as we were coming down the hill toward our house, all of a sudden we had headlights shining back up at us.  People were now stuck going the wrong way up the road and couldn't get out of the way!  So both sides of the road were blocked and we had to drive through the median to get home.

We decided to get out there and pay it forward, so we put on snow clothes and went back to dig people out and push cars up the hill.  A bunch of our a-hole neighbors were out trying to CHARGE people to help them up the hill.  What a bunch of diicks.

Apparently people all around the area were stuck in their cars in traffic jams over night.  I've never seen anything like this before.  Thank God I'm able to work from home today and not get out in the mess.

Anyone else have some good snow stories?

Re: Finally - SNOW!

  • im so glad you finally got some of the snow you were looking for!  lia said it was really wet and heavy, the worst kind to shovel!

it was nice of you to go out and help clean up the messes in the streets--i like doing that too, its good exercise, especially after being in the car for 3 hours!

we were supposed to get a few inches from this snow system, but we didn't get a thing!  this morning it was sunny and beautiful and near 30 degrees.  None at all, which is fine, since we already have a few feet and i am so busy at work that I don't need a snow day.

My sister in Brooklyn got 19"!

  • Lia's right - it was awwwful.  I had to keep climbing out of the car and scraping the windshield as we drove because it would get clumped under the wipers and not let them back down.  And it was soooooo heavy to shovel.

I took off across the grass when we got home and tried to make a snow angel and I could barely even move my arms and legs through it!

  • I saw news reports of snow on the East Coast.  I hope you all have fun in the snow, and that there aren't any incidents like the Audi (or is it Acura) commercial.  The one where all the cars are sliding around.

  • Holy crap, that is crazy!  I fear I won't get any snow this year at all.  Two Tahoe weekends = both clear.  Boo.

  • We got snow.  DH refused to rush to clear it so I could go to work.  Darn!  I still haven't heard back from my boss, but there's not much she can do about it.

This was me last week. Just driving along one second and then completely in the snowbank the next, facing the other direction. Not fun.

  • Well...snow wasn't supposed to start here til after the am commute yesterday.  Weather man screwed that up since there was a veritable blizzard as soon as I hit the NJ state line.  Snowed all day (only supposed to get an inch??), so I left about an hour early to avoid being on the roads in the 'big' snow.  Still took me an hour and a half to get home (normally 45-50 minutes).

We had a delayed opening this am - I was planning on going in until I looked outside and saw that DH never bothered to shovel the driveway this morning.  He just drove over it.  Great for him in a big ole Dodge truck.  Not so good for me in my little Subie.  And doc has restricted me from shoveling.  Soo...I be working from home today.  Finally saw a snowplow on our road around 1:30 this afternoon.

Can't wait for the 2 'small' storms coming this weekend.  Or the next biggie, which is due Tues/Wed of next week.

  • The thing that was so bizarre about this snow is that the previous two snowfalls were SO overhyped and we got an inch or so, and this one came out of nowhere.  They were saying we'd start getting some snow during the commute home Wednesday evening, and that it would be a few inches.  We wake up Wednesday morning and there's already a few inches, and it snowed all damn day.  I was already planning on working from home, and Jeff stayed home too - thank goodness, because people were having 3-8 hour commutes home.  Unfortunately I didn't get much work done with him around, though.

It took an hour to dig the car out this morning, it is HEAVY snow.  My professor today said it took him 8 hours to get home on the JFX - he normally has a 20 minute commute, 30 in traffic.  Another professor took 4 hours to get home, and had no power all night.  They told him it wouldn't be fixed until Saturday.  Our cable and internet were out from 4 pm until I woke up, but it came on around 8:30.  Luckily we still had power.
