hmmm.... sippy cup question.

after reading all of these posts about sippy cups it got me thinking. i didnt even attempt a sippy for liam until he was over a year. i thought a 6 or 7 month old would just be too young. i did EBF so maybe thats why?? am i the only one who waited?? no biggie just curious!

Re: hmmm.... sippy cup question.

  • I EBF (well, we're on to solids now in addition to EBFing) but the doc said to go ahead and just let her play with one to get the idea of it.

With Maddy I waited a bit b/c the first time she wasn't a fan. Now, at almost 9 months, I'm looking for ones she'll start to use since we are only 3 months from the milk transition (I plan to stop BFing at a year since little miss refuses the bottle and I'm exhausted). She can have some water now so I let her have a few sips of water after she eats her food.

  • Maggie didn't really have an interest in one until almost a year.  Starting at about 9 or 10 months I would fill one with water during meals and let her play with it, but she was about a year when she got the hang of it and actually drank from it purposely.  I still can't get her to take milk from one though!!  She refuses to give up the bottle, grrr!

  • i EBF'd too, but started offering water from a cup around 6 months, i think, whenever she started grabbing at ours.  she definitely wouldn't take my milk from anything other than a bottle until after a year, though.
  • i finally gave liza on at 6mo because she loved sipping from our glass & i needed to leave her with my mom for a few hours and she won't take a bottle, but drank some milk from the sippy.

she doesn't drink out of it a lot, but i will sometimes give her some water after she eats or when i need to keep her busy for a few seconds.
