I'm looking to branch out and find some new hobbies. Right now I do a lot of reading, I paint, cross stitching, games (video & board) to name a few. I'm fairly crafty and don't mind something that is a little challenging. These kinds of things are fine now and then, but its gets old/boring after awhile and I'm looking for something a little more long(er) term & new/different.
What are some things you ladies do? I'm not a big scrapbooking fan; I've tried it multiple times and just can't get into it. I feel like I need some other things to occupy my time and keep my mind busy on the days that I actually have some down time. I'm looking for things I can do at home mostly, but am not opposed to going somewhere now and then. TIA!

I crochet which, depending on the project, can be easily transportable just like knitting. I also started taking wood turning classes from our Community Education group and LOVE it. There is virtually no end to the fun things I can create with a wood lathe and a little knowledge and skill practice. On my to-do list is learning calligraphy and taking a stained glass class. Not sure if you have a group through the public schools like that where you are but it has been a great resource for some fun and not horribly expensive learning for me. They even have a class on how to get the best photos from your regular old point and shoot digital cameras which I might need. I don't have mad skillz like Kristina!
I'm totally with you on the scrap booking - so not my deal. I appreciate that there is an art to doing it but I would much rather throw my pictures in a regular old album and not have to think about it.
DH and I took a social dance class which might be fun for both of you - if your DH would be game. There are a couple ballroom dancing clubs in our area that have open dance nights and you can just drop in and practice or learn new stuff from the people in the club.
Witty - you reminded me that I still need to get on my photography blog! I keep forgetting about that. That will be def be an awesome project. One that I've been talking about doing for years. I've been doing photography since I was a kid and have been looking for a way to showcase what I have done.
I've gone back and forth on the knitting idea. I'm more concerned about my lack of desire/interest in the topic; that's generally how I gauge how well I will and how much I will keep it up. If its just kinda "eh", I can almost guarantee it will be sitting around for a long while.
We are also putting our house on the market very soon and we have been doing soooo many projects (painting, updating, etc.) that I'm seriously burnt out on it. I know we have things that I could be doing, but I also know that working 10+ hours a day and then going home to "work" for another 4 gets real old, real fast.
This is one of the things I like best about knitting. I can plop on the couch, put on a movie, and knit away to my heart's content. I still kind of feel like I'm getting something done, but it doesn't require any energy at all.
But if it's not going to hold your attention, don't do it. It's not for everyone. It drives me crazy to have unfinished projects sitting in the closet for months at a time...

I do a lot of photography and my sister is a painter. I have recently started buying canvas and trying out her hobby. I really enjoy it and it's very relaxing. She uses acrylic paints, which are really easy to use. She also has India inks that are very vibrant on canvas. Ink blots are really easy and fun to do.
We are also saving up our money to buy a potter's wheel. A lady in our town has a kiln that she is selling us for $150.00. We are going to start making pottery. I am really excited about that.
This is kind of random but I have also thought about buying some rollerblades and getting outdoors more. I spend way too much time on the computer and I need to get active. I am trying to persuade my sister to do it with me though, I don't think it would be fun to do alone.
