For every show that comes in, we do an estimate of the labor bill (in an Excel spreadsheet). It gets pretty complicated sometimes. After the show is done, and we have the actual labor bill, we balance the estimate to the actual and send it to the client so that they can see the spread of where the money went. Obviously, this is easier for some shows than it is for others.
I'm working on the one for the Broadway show that we just did. My coworker started the work on the estimate on Tuesday, and when he left, I started working on it on Tuesday night. I have been working on it since then, and I still can't get the dumb thing to balance. It's still almost $1000 off!
At this point, I swear that Excel is laughing at me. I'm taking one last crack at it this morning (after the caffeine has kicked in), and then passing it back to Pete. But part of me is angry and want to conquer this. But there's other work to be done.
Re: I swear, Excel is laughing at me
Grrrr. Excel is annoying to me.
We used to use their spreadsheets to keep track of student enrollment at my old job, and they NEVER came out to what they were in other programs. I don't miss them.
Hope you can figure it out!
Woohoo!!
Woohoo!
Yessss!
Excel and I have a mutual disgust for each other.
Congrats on getting it balanced!
