Need help w/ paint color please

I have to decide today (I was told) what color I want the walls to be upstairs.  It is one big room with a bathroom.  I kind of wanted to do something a little more fun than the "Basket Beige" by SW that I have in all of the main areas downstairs.  Here are the colors of the doors/carpet/stain that will be up there:

Doors (painted basket beige with a brown glaze over it)

Carpet (it's a goldish dark tan with black flecks...it looks ugly here but I like it...sigh)

Stain color for the baseboards, crown, trim around doors and cabinets in bathroom--the color is called burnished walnut

Would you go bold and do a red?  Would you do a chocolate brown color?  Green?  Ultimately the upstairs will serve as a play area/guest quarters with a bed in the window nook, and in the main area a TV, couch and love seat.  The furniture will be black leather.

I think this color looks nice with black furniture and the wood trim you've descibed.  I'm not a fan of red paint though.

ETA: maybe a lighter, "burnt/orange-y" red or a light blue/turquoise?

  • Two of my favorite colors that I've used in my house are a green and a burnt orange color. I love them both and I've been able to find a TON of deco to use in those rooms.

  • I was going to suggest an apple green until you said black furniture. I think the green would be better with brown leather.

    What about a deep purple?

  • I am a red person so I would say red, but the burnt orange or green a little darker than sage green would look good with your black furniture.

  • I'm going with your green suggestions and doing a color called Ryegrass. It's a light avocado...richer than apple green so I think it will compliment the black leather a little more. Thanks for the suggestions ladies, I appreciate it!
