New hobbies

I'm looking to branch out and find some new hobbies.  Right now I do a lot of reading, I paint, cross stitching, games (video & board) to name a few.  I'm fairly crafty and don't mind something that is a little challenging.  These kinds of things are fine now and then, but its gets old/boring after awhile and I'm looking for something a little more long(er) term & new/different.

What are some things you ladies do?  I'm not a big scrapbooking fan; I've tried it multiple times and just can't get into it.  I feel like I need some other things to occupy my time and keep my mind busy on the days that I actually have some down time.  I'm looking for things I can do at home mostly, but am not opposed to going somewhere now and then.  TIA!

Re: New hobbies

  • A lot of my friends knit or crochet. It seems pretty inexpensive to start up.
  • I really don't have any hobbies either It'll be interesting to read what people have to say.

  • I've been loom knitting and crocheting.  I like the look of the crocheted stuff better so that's what I've started focusing on more and more.  The start-up for either is pretty cheap and you can choose the difficulty level.  Also, there are tons and tons of free teaching tools online.  It's also pretty portable so while I'm being tortured in a continuing education class tomorrow, I'll be working on an afghan.

  • I do all the things you do, but lately all my projects have been house related. If you own your place, are there things that need to get done? (painting, caulking, repairs, improvements?) You might even be able to do some improvements in a rental.

Also, you could look into new recipes & trying new foods/cooking methods.

We do own our house, and its actually going on the market within the next few months so we have been working on the house a LOT lately.  We're kinda stalled on things right now until the warmer weather hits so we can clean up the landscaping and make it all pretty again.  We def have some small things that can be done in the meantime, but honestly I need a break from it at times.  It gets exhausting as I'm sure you know.

Your ideas about the recipes/cooking etc. are great...but I will admit I don't bother much with any cooking anymore.  H is a professional so he takes care of that now.  I'm kinda spoiled in that area.  Stick out tongue

  • Yoga. You can do it at home alone, in a hotel room when traveling, or go to classes. It sounds like you have a lot of sedentary hobbies already - why not mix it up with something physical.

I'm jealous of your in-house chef! My DH is good a chilli (cincinnati-style) and pizza...anything else is up to me!

I second nota's recommendation of yoga--there are a ton of DVDs and online videos that can get you started.
