? for the new moms

Hi new moms!  I am putting together a gift for my sister and brother in law to give them after their kiddo is born this spring.  I got a wonderful deal on a couple's massage through a Groupon thing that I bought for them and was going to give them a gift certificate to a really good restaurant near the spa and then watch their kiddo for them during their date time.

As a new mom, would you have liked that?   I bought the spa thing without a name on it so I could give it to someone else (or use it for me!) if you think that would be a non cool thing.  They'd have 4 months to use it so it isn't like it has to be used right away after the baby is born too.  It seemed like a nice, relaxing activity they could do together since I'm sure those first few months are a little hectic.

  • That is a fabulous idea!  I really think they will love it.  And you are so right, they will need some adult time and relaxation after having a baby.

  • I agree, that is a very thoughtful gift. I think they will love it. It is hard to find time to do anything for yourself once the baby is born (I have to shower with him to ensure I get one in every day!).

My mom actually did something similar for us for Christmas - she watched Liam while Juan and I went and got massages and ran a few errands. It was WONDERFUL.

  • Cool - thanks for the feedback ladies.  I feel much less nervous about this being a good idea (not having kids myself it is tough to say what a new parent might enjoy).
  • I would be a little leery about massages though. DH and I had one on our honeymoon and he HATED it. Some people (especially men) are just not comfortable feeling hot and oily and having a stranger rub them down. Just sayin'.
