baby shower advice!

Well, one of my very good friends just announced she is KTFU after a year or so of trying - sooooo excited.

In our group of friends I am usually the one to hostess the showers and I want to make her shower awesome.

Snowful and I hosted a shower awhile back for another friend (who is a sometimes OK nestie, FYI) and we had chicken pot pie, rolls from Cheever's, fruit, etc etc and I also made one of those watermelon baby carriages and, of course, we played games.

Anyway, even though we won't have this friend's shower until this summer, I want interesting ideas for how we can make this shower special too.  This particular friend likes to "use" me for my pool (I don't mind!) so I was thinking a summer surprise pool party shower would be a ton of fun.

Anyone have any interesting table top ideas, fun game ideas, etc etc that would make this shower unique?

  • This may sound weird but since you plan to have it outside around your pool could you do some type of luau theme or would that be too much? You could serve some non-alcholic fruity drinks, have chicken salad sandwhiches and salads.

    I LOVE that idea!

  • T - GREAT idea.  I think she would really love that. Plus, she has been wanting to go to the beach for ages so we could attempt to make it beachy.

I wonder if DH would object to me bringing in a truck full of sand? (I am KIDDING)

I do worry about having it a surprise. She has a tedency to be, oh, around an hour late to everything.  I would probably have to get her hubs involved and he isn't exactly reliable either, I don't think.

I could help pick her up and at least give you an estimated time of arrival.  Although I'd have to miss out on all the fun pre-party decorating...

    and drinking.....

  • Glad you all like the idea. If you want to use sand somewhere maybe it could be used in the table decorations. Jars/vases/baby bottles filled with sand. I would keep the table clothes solid colors then do the napkins, plates with the party theme. I would also get the cheap plastic (if you don't want glass) daiquiri/margarita glasses for the virgin drinks.
