Crosstown Question

I've driven on the crosstown maybe 1 time. I'm going to take it Sat to get to Ikea. I'll be going from New Tampa down 75 S to the crosstown, straight to the store. My dumb question is, can I take the same way to go back home? Common sense would tell me yes, but when I looked at google maps, it does not offer the crosstown as a suggested route home. It only tells me about I-4 (which I would normally take but there might be too much gasparilla traffic) or it tells me about taking 60/Adamo to 75 S. It DOES offer the crosstown as a suggested route to get there.

So I'm confused, can I not take the crosstown back the same way I come from? Sorry this is so dumb, maybe google is just wrong.

Re: Crosstown Question

  • Yes, you can get back onto the Crosstown from the IKEA exit(just look for signs) I do it all the time :-)

  • Thanks, Lauren. I was thinking maybe there was some weird construction that wasn't allowing people to drive the opposite direction or something. Who knows!
  • There is construction going on right around the Ikea exit. they are making a crosstown I-4 connector. But last I took it (Monday) on and off 22nd street was open
  • There shouldn't be much traffic in ybor if at all.  The parade starts on Bay to Bay and ends in downtown way before ybor.   It doesn't even start until 3.  Honestly you are going way out of your way to get to the crosstown.  Plus you would have to take the lower level of the xtown to exit at Ikea and there is construction on the lower level that merges it down to 1 lane.  (this will be for the next 6 months) I think you would be way better off just taking I-4.

Have fun at Ikea.  That place is the DEVIL!  I love it!

Maybe you're right. I didn't think there would be traffic in Ybor, but more so on I-4. I was afraid that I-75 would be smooth sailing but then once I hit I-4 kinda close to Ybor, it would be slow. And then I was afraid that leaving Ikea around 5:30ish would run into more traffic on I-4, because I thought some of the people would be leaving downtown at that time. The one year that I went to gasparilla, I remember things being very traffic-y.

I could be waaaaaay wrong but I just hate traffic so much!!! Hmm, I'll have to think some more.
