  • Hosting or attending?

DH and I are hosting a basketball watch party this weekend, we're doing a shwarma bar (shwarma is the Lebanese term for gyro:)) and having pitas, hummus, tabouli, beef and chicken shwarma, rice, tzaziki sauce, lettuce, tomato, onions, and a couple of sweet hummus recipes I just came across for "dessert" that are served with vanilla wafers, apples, and graham crackers.

Cara's Cravings had some good lighter fare appetizer suggestions last weekend, I have a good Cooking Light spinach-artichoke dip recipe.

I tend to make things like buffalo wing dip, black bean and corn salsa, raspberry-chipotle bean dip, or something that goes with the hostess' menu theme.  We've done soup & sandwiches a few times, BBQ theme, etc...

  • Last year I made:

    • TX Cavier
    • Chicken Taco Chili
    • Corn Bread
    • Cheese/Crackers/Pepperoni
    • Guacamole
    • Oreo Truffles decorated/shaped like footballs
This year, it's just going to be DH, myself, mom & stepdad. We'll likely have TX Cavier, Spiniach/Artichoke dip, Ordered Pizza/Wings. I'm going to make Butterscotch blondies for dessert.
  • You could make a few types of soups and have a "Souper" Bowl party! We actually have a soup buffet once a year in October with about 6-10 people present. I make 2 soups and my mom makes one, then we have a selection of crackers, bread, flat bread and toppings for all the soups. I get small plastic bowls so people can try as many of the soups as they want. It is alot of fun.

I usually make one soup that cooks in the crockpot, and make another either that AM or the night before, then warm it on the stove after we get back from our walk (we do a cancer walk every year). Oh, and we reheat my mom's soup too. We coordinate so there is one cream type soup and one broth soup. The 3rd one just depends on what I'm in the mood for.

  • I kow I'm a little late on this....but here goes anyway!

Basically we have either taco soup or chili with all the fixin's, homemade salsa with chips, mini pigs-in-a-blanket (little smokies wrapped in crescent rolls) with a dipping sauce, buffalo chicken dip, meatballs, veggie tray, cheese & crackers.

Yumm....just thinking about all the yummy food is making me hungry!

  • I've made this one a number of times, it's a warm cheesy dip and OMG fantastic!

It's in the family of taco dip, but it's warm and melty.
